Since 2007 to the present FWA has toured Gamelan Cudamani in the USA and organized study programs in Bali. With enrollments of 350 students age 6-19 we support 18 classes of gamelan and dance each week. FWA grants offer direct support of the teaching staff. A total of 18 teachers offer classes at the highest professional level. Our grants support the core administrative staff that manage classes, coordinate faculty, organize special student recitals and other special events. While teaching facilities are provided by gamelan Cudamani, FWA support insures the maintenance of facilities, replacement and repair of instruments, and the purchase of dance costumes. Cudamani offers gamelan and dance instruction to over 350 children. They have a team of 18 experienced and talented teachers. The primary objective of the school is to prepare youth to participate in temple ceremonies and village events. Their contribution is both a benefit and point of pride in the village. Cudamani sets a high bar of educational excellence. Senior members as well as the children have been invited to the prestigious Bali Arts Festival. They do not participate in touristic events but on occasion are asked to prepare concerts for visiting students and dignitaries . The school operation is fully funded by FWA. Schedule F, Part II, Line 2 Cudamani Summer Institute is a two week intensive with participants attending from all over the world. The core of the teaching program includes daily gamelan and dance* study. A hallmark of the Cudamani Summer Institute are the many assistant teachers who are able to offer each student personal support; as a result, even players/dancers new to Balinese performance are able to accomplish an enormous amount in the limited time of the program. Our senior and junior teachers carefully guide students to a level of complexity that allows each person to get the attention they need to develop artistically. Over the years we have taken special pleasure when colleges and Universities bring small groups of students already versed in Balinese performing arts to join the CSI. The nature of the program easily incorporates musicians and dancers of all levels, including advanced students who wish to refine their skills at the more complicated instruments such as the drum and reyong or dancers wishing to learn more advanced repertoire. The program is further enhanced by lecture demonstrations by members of Cudamani; invited lectures by guest speakers; and field trips to cultural sites in our area. The program concludes with a final performance with CSI students sharing a program with members of Cudamani. After seventeen years of experience Dewa Berata creates a balanced, dynamic and inspiring educational experience that has students returning year after year. Schedule F, Part II, Line 3 Major repairs were required of the principal music rehearsal pavillion. Repairs included replacing the roof, reinforcing pillars, extending the floor, adding stairs, bathrooms, and new tile flooring. Lighting and storage space were added. !8 rehearsals/classes are conducted in this space and is central to the education program of Cudamani. All rennovations were covered by the FWA.
