We preserve two historic vessels: Tall Ship Gazela & Tugboat Jupiter. false false 68980 32048 Ship Preservation and Maint: PSPG is a volunteer centered organization which restores and maintains the Tall Ship Gazela (built 1901) and the Tug Jupiter (built 1902). We use the work on these vessels a way to introduce more people to maritime culture, to train people in: mech, elect, woodworking and eng skills. A ship is a complete environment; aintaining it teaches skill in all these areas. Sailing it brings people into a colab community with others with very diff backgrounds. This year over 70 volunteers participated in activities maintaining Gazela. Notable: In water plank hull work was done on Gazela. Jupiter replaced generator water pump and main engine starter cable. 25510 35000 Education: In 2024 PSPG was awarded a grant that funded a training program for paid intern/apprentices to learn about and gain hands on experience working in the marine trades industry. Throughout the year several training sails introduced novice sailors to the operation and life aboard a traditional wooden sailing tall ship. The education department continued planning and developing a curriculum for after school programs, STEM training and field trips. 16503 22839 Events: Events hosted on the Tall Ship Gazela serve to both generate income for PSPG and to introduce people in the region to our presence and mission. Many of our volunteers first learn about PSPG during a public event. In 2024 we hosted eleven private or ticketed events and were open to the general public for tours four times during the summer.
