We invest a great deal of time and resources into recruiting, training, and retaining our volunteers. All of our services are provided by volunteers, which allows us to offer our programs to the community free of charge. At present, we have a volunteer base of approximately 250 people in service to anywhere between 400-500 senior citizens in a two-county area (Kanawha and Putnam) of West Virginia. In FY2024, we continued to improve our processes, implementing new strategies and tools for sustaining and managing a volunteer team of this size. An effective volunteer management process is the most critical part of sustaining and growing our program and services. Since our inception, our volunteers have performed 33,130 hours of service at a value benefit of $933,65 to our community. (Calculated by using the value of a volunteer hour in West Virginia as determined by IndependentSector.org.) 5568 0 0 Our transportation program is our single most requested service. We offer this program at no cost to those we serve. We do incur some mileage reimbursement cost. Our volunteers have provided nearly 13,000 rides to non-emergency medical appointments since we were established in 2014. This program is essential aid to our older neighbors for whom finding reliable transportation is a significant obstacle. Having dependable, consistent access to healthcare services, courtesy of the many volunteers engaged in our work, can be life changing for many. It also serves to help form connections that mitigate loneliness and social isolation that is rampant in our senior population. 4347 0 4317 Our grocery shopping assistance program has been a lifeline for the senior we serve who have no reliable transportation and/or are not able to go shopping for themselves. This program works in a multitude of ways, designed to meet the needs of the individual. Sometimes that means a simple ride to the store. Other times it means shopping with the care receiver. Another option offered is for a volunteer to place an online grocery order that another volunteer picks up and delivers to the care receiver. Through these different means, our volunteers have provided grocery shopping assistance 2,500 times since our inception. In some cases, our organization pre-pays the grocery order to be reimbursed by the care receiver. This is the amount reflected in the "expenses" for this program, the vast percentage of which is reimbursed, reflected in the revenue number. 7249 0 1021 Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley has a collection of smaller programs offering unique services that are often difficult for our seniors to access via other agencies. These include a Library by Mail service, emergency food assistance, holiday meals delivered to their homes, Senior Christmas, friendly phone calls, minor home repairs with an eye toward safe home environments (grab bars, handrails, etc.), and special financial support for one-time needs like a new appliance, relocation, utility cut-off notices, and similar situations. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Our organization's bylaws call for each Board member and officer to complete and sign a Conflict of Interest statement annually. These forms are collected and retained in our Board records. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 Our organization's Finance Committee conducts annual budget meetings to prepare the budget for the upcoming fiscal year for full Board approval. As part of this process, reviews of the key employees' performance, comparative salary analysis, cost of living, and other factors are incorporated to make decisions on recommended pay for key staff, which are then shared with the Executive Committee. Once agreement is made, those salary recommendations are entered into the proposed budget, the full Board votes to approve or disapprove. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Our organization's governing documents, financial statements, and other records are available to the public via Guidestar and other websites. They are also available directly from staff or Board members upon request. Form 990, Part IX, Line 11g The majority of these funds were spent hiring a developer to build a custom volunteer management scheduling and database tool, per an awarded project grant. A portion was used to support a LifeBridge AmeriCorps member onsite. The balance was used to support a volunteer intake coordinator position.
