Since 2014, Foothills Forum has earned -- through the production of its original, authoritative reporting and its distribution through the respected, century-old weekly broadsheet Rappahannock News and through virtual and social media platforms -- substantial backing throughout its rural county in the Virginia Piedmont. 0 0 224106 12000 0 1. Foothills Forum journalists produced a record number of outstanding deep-dive stories during 2024, boosted by the full-time reporter/photographer hired late in 2023. During the first quarter of 2024 Foothills organized and oversaw production of a three-county package of stories (utilizing reporters from neighboring newspapers in addition to our own) over a four-month period of time focused on how the nationwide housing crisis has affected our part of Virginia. Later, Foothills journalists researched, documented and photographed the challenges young people face across the region relating to mental health. During the annual Virginia Press Association awards, together with our partners at the Rappahannock News, Foothills Forum journalists won 28 awards in 2024, including the sweepstakes prize as the best newspaper of its size in Virginia. 12876 0 0 2. In 2024, Foothills Forum celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special anniversary logo. Foothills commissioned a seven-minute, 10-year anniversary video overviewing Foothills' history and how we contribute to the community. Foothills reporters and editors updated and re-worked in-depth feature articles, graphics and photos produced over the past two years about each of Rappahannock County's villages and made them into a single keepsake magazine publication. Our annual meeting celebrating our anniversary had record attendance, roughly double the number from the previous year. We showed our anniversary video and gave out the Villages publication to all who attended and later mailed out copies of the Villages publication to all of our donors. 2482 0 0 Continued to expand a countywide "Storytelling Contest". Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2 The Board Chair and Treasurer are in-laws related through marriage. The wives of the two officers are sisters Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Form 990 is prepared by the Treasurer. A draft of the Form 990 is distributed via email to each member of the Board of Directors prior to the Board meeting in March. The draft is reviewed and approved at the Board meeting. Any revisions are noted and made prior to submission to the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The Conflict of Interest Policy is reviewed annually at the first meeting of the Board each year. At that meeting all Board Members are required to return a signed copy of the policy confirming their understanding and that they are in compliance or stating any conflicts they may have. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The proposed annual salary increase of the Executive Director was determined by reviewing salaries of Executive Directors in comparable organizations in the area by the Compensation Committee of the Board. The proposed salary was then presented to, discussed, and approved by the Board of Directors prior to being implemented. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 All governing documents are made available on the organization's website and are also made available upon written request. This includes the minutes of the Board of Directors meetings. In addition, all meetings of the Board of Directors are open to the public.
