The earnings from the endowment may be used by the NACC to fund the ongoing mission of the organization in providing societal justice for children. NACC retains in perpetuity the original value of unreleased gifts donated to the endowment. Endowment funds decrease upon release of restrictions on gifts by the donor. The restriction placed on the original gift and its accumulated investment earnings from the Lea for Justice Endowment fund was released by the donor in tax year 2018, resulting in a substantial reduction of endowment funds. These endowment funds are classified as board-restricted net assets. Part X, Line 2: National Association of Counsel for Children is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is classified as other than a private corporation. NACC follows FASB ASC 740 Income Taxes, which requires entities to determine whether a tax position is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority. NACC has evaluated tax positions taken related to its tax-exempt status, and none are considered to be uncertain. Therefore, no amounts have been recognized as of December 31, 2023. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The independent accountant prepares the Form 990. It is reviewed by the NACC Executive Director, finance committee, and Board of Directors, and is signed by the Executive Director. The filed Form 990 is available to the Board and to the public. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15 The organization consults with independent experts specializing in nonprofit employment to establish protocols and compensation. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements available to the public upon request.
