<Desc>Client Services: Street Youth Ministry (SYMin) serves street-dependent youth (clients) with three strategies: meet them where they are and provide some physical relief, engaged them in our core services where we build relationships, and help them make changes to their lives as they set goals and priorities for growth, healing and recovery. In 2024, SYMin completed its first year of operation in our newly rented facility in North Central Austin, after six years of renting space near the University of Texas. Prior to 2017 we operated entirely with pop-up events in borrowed facilities. To assure a smooth transition, we continued to visit our old neighborhood twice a week in truck-based outreach as well as continued our San Marcos outreach Continued on Schedule O</Desc>

<Desc>Volunteer Services: SYMin organizes and trains workers through our volunteer program. The pandemic and our move impacted volunteerism. In 2024, 507 volunteers (down 25%) contributed 5,013 hours (down 2%). Volunteers made over 1,500 deliveries of food, clothing, and supplies with an estimated impact of $185,743 (up 24%). This was the year volunteerism returned in a big way. 149 helpers served directly or behind the scenes (up 62%), contributing 934 hours (down 67%). Another group of 364 in-kind volunteers (up from 302) gave 3,687 hours (up 45%) and $77,458 of food (up 227%), allowing us to provide food on all outreach encounters, 3,089 food bags, and 1,793 meals. They also provided $94,027 (down 2%) in clothing and supplies. We began a laundry program with a local laundromat and paid for over 200 loads to improve clothing reuse. We also launder clothing left behind by clients. Service projects for groups and sponsorship of themed Friday Fun Days resumed.</Desc>

<Desc>Public Awareness: Our public awareness program raises visibility for street youth, who are often invisible and under-served. We tell stories from the street, use media, speak publicly, and engage schools. We resumed speaking opportunities, provide downloadable and printed resources, lead service projects, supply speakers, and publish newsletters. Our newsletter base grew 9% to 7,709 with very low unsubscribe rates. The base includes 3,053 quarterly newsletter subscribers, 973 prayer letter subscribers, 1,729 volunteer letter subscribers, 297 collaborator letter subscribers, 575 SMS program subscribers, and 1,082 direct mail recipients. We have 2,651 Facebook followers (flat). Print remains our fastest-growing medium as we monitor communication preferences in a changing landscape.</Desc>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990,Part III, line 4a:as well as continued our San Marcos outreach and three other established outreach sites in downtown Austin weekly. Our previous building location was no longer available for long-term rental. In 2024 we served 2,089 unique clients (up 31%). Of those, we served 500 within our age range, our primary focus (up 11%). We serve overage people only on outreach because it helps us attract and meet clients in our age range. Our outreach brings us into regular contact with many community homeless of all ages, and we provide what help we can without defocusing our teams, efforts, and impact. In Austin outreach, we reach 4.2 clients in our age range by serving 20 people total. San Marcos has an even stronger figure of 6.2 young clients per 20 people served. We utilize donated resources rather than funds in serving those overages. We met 1,412 new homeless individuals overall, up 12% from the previous year, and 284 new clients in our age range, up 15% from the prior year. This continues a streak of two years with very high new client intake. We met an average of 29.2 new clients each week overall and 5.7 per week in our age range. For all of 2024 we provided indoor services (as we did pre-pandemic and before our move) and a mix of outreach in other locations, including outreach in six or more locations weekly, access to our Sunshine Store for clothing, showers, and supplies twice a day, several weekly events for healthy fun and relationship building in our Event Center, and nine weekly groups in our Learning Center to foster growth and healing. In December 2023 we began planning the transplant of these services to our newly leased location so they would be recognizable and available on the same schedule but in the new facility. We also added outreach in the old neighborhood several times a week to help clients transition and maintain contact. Our drop-in services (including the Sunshine Store and Event Center) served 150 unique clients in the new location, down by one from the prior year, which is remarkable given the change of location. We provided 95 food pantry bags to clients who had moved into housing and 365 camping food bags to clients still living in shelters or on the streets. We transitioned from hybrid groups in the middle of the year since most participants are in-person, serving 81 unique clients, the same quantity as before the move. Our Help Line served 236 people (up 6%) with resource information and referrals. Our learn and earn incentives program had 98 clients earning points (down 10%). Outreach focused on delivery of essentials, referrals to needed services, and on-the-spot guidance to 1,683 people of any age in Austin (up 30%) and 221 in San Marcos (up 38%). We distributed 2,629 outreach bags (up 48%) to people of all ages on the streets. All four types of our service are designed to build relationships and rapport, including events such as weekly Game Night, Talent Night, and Friday Fun Day, which feature community guests or organizations and a theme. Our groups cultivate a desire for stability, sobriety, reconnection with God, and a faith home, including Bible Study, Prayer Group, two Peer Support sessions weekly, a book club hour, and two weekly Computer Labs featuring our Learn and Earn soft skills classes. SYMin staff and volunteers witnessed for Christ 950 times (up 27%). We had 13,581 interactions with clients (up 4%) and 2,258 in-depth visits (up 13%). We shared 8,912 prayer requests from 1,251 clients with our prayer team (up 20%). In 2024, 225 clients in our age range when first served achieved goals, up 7%. We had deep engagement with 25% of our clients (down 21%) as defined by at least 40 hours of service and 10 deep conversations. Of those engaged clients, 99% achieved goals to change their lives, the same as last year. By comparison, only 28% of the less-engaged group achieved goals (down 1%). Those who engage with our team are 3.6 times more likely to be making changes (up from 3.4). Client contacts are diverse: 12% Black, 30% Hispanic, 31% female. Median age is 24. 8% are teenagers, 38% are 20-24, and 48% are 25-28.</ExplanationTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Form 990, Part III, Line 4d:SYMin trains future leaders through its paid internship program. Interns receive a 10-week experience leading volunteer-based, urban poverty-informed ministries. The program includes a textbook on street youth culture, weekly video discussions, training handouts, a weekly project, and hands-on work. In 2024, we trained seven interns (down 53%). Several stayed for second terms, reducing the unique number of interns. We eliminated San Marcos-based interns and instead asked Austin interns to travel to San Marcos, improving training and client outcomes. All internships are paid to increase diversity. Interns received 135 hours of training and provided 1,627 hours of work (equal to one full-time team member).</ExplanationTxt>
