The core mission of MCJROTC is to provide a leadership education course that builds character, develops informed responsible citizens, and introduces rigor and relevance through physical and academic education to at-risk youth ages 13-18. Although instructor salaries for the Orange High MCJROTC are paid for by the United States Marine Corps and the Orange Unified School District, there is no funding available from these entities to cover the costs of any extracurricular events and activities undertaken by the cadets. The Association works to secure donations and philanthropic support for these activities, which are critical to the core mission of the Orange High Marine Corps JROTC Program. All funds secured by the Association are used exclusively to support and benefit Orange High MCJROTC activities, events, and scholarships. All Association work is performed by volunteers - there are no paid employees. Part IV Section D, Lines 2 & 3 How does the organization maintain a close and continuous working relationship with the supported organization(s) supported organizations and maintain a significant voice in directing the use of the organization?s income. The program is overseen by a retired Marine Corps officer, assisted by a retired Marine Corps Master Sergeant. The Marine Instructors provide an annual proposed budget at the beginning of each school year to the Association Board, listing the various events and activities they wish to have the cadets engage in during the year, the expected number of cadets participating in each activity, and the estimated cost. The Board reviews and approves a final Budget for the Program (subject to revision depending upon the level of financial support/donations actually received). Thereafter, the Marine Instructors provide weekly written updates to the Association, outlining in detail the various extracurricular activities, events, and field trips arranged and undertaken, and providing copies of receipts for all expenditures. Part IV Section E, Line 1(c) Describe how you supported a governmental entity. Orange High School is a public high school which is a constituent part of the Orange Unified School District, a governmental agency authorized by the California State Constitution to fulfill its obligation of providing a program of free public education to minors. The Orange High MCJROTC is a part of the curriculum at Orange High School, and its activities are conducted under the aegis of OUSD and the United States Marine Corps. Cadets enrolled in the JROTC Program receive education credit towards their high school graduation requirements. All funding provided by the Association to the Orange High Marine Corps JROTC Program accordingly supports the educational aims of Orange High School and the Orange Unified School District, as well as the United States Marine Corps.
