For many clients, VA compensation benefits serve as a crucial source of stability. These benefits help veterans meet their basic needs, access necessary medical care, and achieve greater financial independence. Beyond monetary support, they also recognize and affirm a veteran's service and sacrifice. In 2024, VLC delivered direct legal assistance to 313 veterans, addressing 472 distinct legal issues. VLC secured the following outcomes for clients with cases closed between January and December 2024: $1,536,000 in lump-sum VA benefit awards; $17,714,000 in anticipated lifetime VA benefits; and $450,000 in VA debt waivers. By providing competent legal representation, VLC plays a vital role in preventing veteran homelessness, securing essential benefits, and restoring dignity to those who have served. Prior to receiving revenue from VLC's programs and activities, VLC incurred certain costs and expenses associated with (i) incorporating and organizing VLC as a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation, (ii) hiring employees, and (iii) carrying out activities incidental to the creation and initial operations of VLC as a nonprofit corporation with I.R.C. Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status (hereinafter collectively referred to as the "Start-Up Costs"). The Incorporators advanced funds to VLC with the expectation of repayment to enable VLC to pay for the Start-Up Costs. To substantiate the Incorporators' expectation of repayment in connection with advancing funds to VLC for the Start-Up Costs, the Incorporators each entered into a zero-interest loan agreement with VLC on November 21, 2023, pursuant to which the Incorporators provided zero-interest loans to VLC, which were due and payable in full as December 31, 2024, and which VLC could pre-pay, in whole or in part, at any time. Michael Taub has provided the Board with documentation substantiating the amounts he has loaned to VLC, and as of December 31, 2024 such payments totaled $38,500. Alexandra Muolo has provided the Board with documentation substantiating the amounts she has loaned to VLC in relation to VLC's Start-Up Costs, and as of December 31, 2024 such payments totaled $30,000.
