The Board of Directors has a standing committee for Legislative Advocacy that directs these efforts, and expenses are paid for by the Association. The Texas Legislature only meets every other year, so these expenses are only incurred every other year. The current year for which this return is for was a non-legislative year so there were no expenses. Form 990, Part III, Line 3 We are continuing the process of transitioning away from memberships. We had previously decided to only terminate annual membership and only keep lifetime and student memberships, however under new leadership and after further analysis, the decision has been made to also terminate lifetime memberships and student alumni association memberships to create a more inclusive approach towards welcoming all alumni as part of the Alumni Association and remove barriers to participation. Because of this change, we discontinued all membership campaigns and promotions in FY 24 and have ceased actively promoting all forms of membership. We are continuing to do renewals, etc, and membership options are still available on our website. This has continued to lead to a decline in membership revenues that are collected through the University/Alumni Relations, which has subsequently also led to a slight decline in fulfillment costs, promotions costs and other related costs on the Association side. We anticipate communication to the Alumni community in the second quarter of FY 25 (approximately January to February 2025) of this change, at which time renewals will be turned off, shortly followed by turning all membership options off. The hope is to have this transition fully complete by the 3rd quarter of FY 25, barring any complications or unforeseen circumstances.
