<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>A $25,000 grant made to The Nature Conservancy TNC to support the removal of the Cedar Grove Dam on the Pequest River in Belvidere NJ. The project will restore aquatic connectivity and improve water quality for the benefit of fish species such as American shad. Removal of the dam is part of a TNC initiative to restore the Pequest River to a more natural system. Many of the dams on the Pequest have outlived their usefulness and become hazardous degrading water quality disconnecting access to important spawning habitat for migratory fish and posing a danger to recreational paddlers. Maintenance and repair of aging dam is costly and in many cases removal is the cheaper and more ecologically conscious option. This project along with the nearby No Name Dam will reconnect and improve 7.8 miles on the mainstem Pequest River and 50 miles of its tributaries.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>A $25,000 grant to the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions ANJEC to complete the Restoration of Water Quality in the Parvin-Tarkiln Watershed Project in Vineland NJ. The project will reduce impacts of localized flooding and improve water quality in the Parvin and Tarkiln streams tributaries to the Maurice River. The work includes using green infrastructure to manage previously untreated stormwater runoff reducing nutrient and sediment loadings thereby protecting and improving water quality. The funding will cover the cost of one of six engineered stormwater management tree pits with interpretative signage along a municipal parking lot in Vineland. These pits will divert capture and filter stormwater runoff before it enters local waterways thus improving the health of urban and suburban waterways and reducing the need for existing storm sewer systems to convey these flows.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

The project will reduce flood risk and mitigate impact of storm events improve community resiliency by protecting existing beach and marsh habitat value to people and spawning horseshoe crabs reduce erosion rates and raise beach elevation in the face of sea level rise offer ecological uplift and improved biodiversity and improve local water quality with a decrease in sedimentation. As part of the restoration continued monitoring and adaptive management have been accomplished. For this particular adaptive management portion of the project sand will be added to the berm system and stabilized with coir logs and dune and high and low marsh plants will be planted to improve berm stabilization. Interpretive signage will also be placed on-site telling the story of the project.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

This grant will fund Phase 2 of a Forested Wetland Floodplain Restoration project in the Watson-Crampton neighborhood in Woodbridge NJ. The project will enhance wetland function and integrity through the restoration of 3 acres of Phragmites common reed back to a native forested wetland. The project will also convey stormwater and flood waters from the adjacent developed area to the Woodbridge River. The design increases flood water storage using natural ecological features and re-establishes native wetland vegetation appropriate to the site conditions. This restored habitat will improve water quality and biodiversity for state-listed threatened wading bird species such as little blue herons and snowy egrets as well as roosting habitat for black-crowned night herons and cattle egrets.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
