Greater Artesia Foundation donated $251,000 to complete a restroom project at the soccer/football complex at Jaycee Park that is owned by the City of Artesia, NM. 43039 0 0 PACKS OF LOVE - Packs provides sacks of easy to prepare foods weekly on Fridays to Artesia, New Mexico school kids whose only meals are those provided at school and so need additional assistance during the Artesia Public School calendar year. The students are recommended to the program by school counselors. There was an average of 175 students per week. Packs of Love also provides food bags and meat vouchers to the families of participants at Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as Christmas gifts to children participating in the program. For the 2023 Thanksgiving Food Basket drive-thru 60 baskets/families were served. For the 2023 Christmas Food/Gift drive-thru 200 kids, 90 families were served. Packs of Love has an average of 20 volunteers per week. 30992 27500 0 SENIOR SALUTE- 181(85%) of the graduating Artesia High School Seniors and 80 of their guests participated in multiple activities until 4:00 a.m. of the morning following their graduation. This indoor lock-in event was designed to keep graduates safe on the night of their high school graduation, a night that has become known as fraught with tragedy. This program began in 1995 and the tradition has continued for the class of 2024. There were 65 adult volunteers who helped with preparation prior to the event and served through the night as well. There were casino type games, dancing, Minute-to-Win-It and several sports available, and seniors were awarded "Bulldog" cash from the games that they were able to exchange for tickets toward prize raffles throughout the night. The prizes were donated by local merchants. Seniors staying until the morning were awarded a cash prize of approximately $150 each as an incentive to stay at the event and stay safe. 8000 8000 0 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS - GAF administers the funds for four scholarship programs. For fiscal year ended August 31, 2024, 8 southeast New Mexico high school graduates received scholarship payments from these funds. Each scholarship fund has a volunteer review committee that includes members of the school staff. These committees choose the recipients based on pre-set criteria created when the scholarship was funded. Students must provide their acceptance letter and college class schedule initially and their grades for scholarships paid after their first semester. Scholarship checks are paid to and mailed directly to the college/university. 4985 0 3352 FRIENDS OF THE ARTESIA PUBLIC LIBRARY - A group of approximately 17 philanthropists spearheaded efforts that utilized approximately 1461-1500 volunteer hours from September 2023 to August 2024 to provide support to the staff of the Artesia Public Library's programs. An estimated 7,500-8,500 people were served through the programs and events that Friends helped with including book discussion groups, book sales, craft times, story times, Halloween Fun, Touch-A-Truck, Teen Sewing Class, Adult Guided Meditation, Dr. Seuss party and Red Dirt Black Gold festivities. In March 2024, the Library hosted their biggest event, "Marchiversary" which celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Library. Besides their hard work, they raised funds for the Summer Reading Program and helped with expenses for the various new materials and programs. The Friends purchased new material for the Children's Library and various supplies for library. 26860 0 0 MY NEIGHBORHOOD- Continues to work on and improve the Community Garden located at 911 Dallas Street in Artesia, NM. In 2024, the Community Garden had all planter boxes reserved and 14 volunteer gardeners, 3 leaders and 1 contract maintenance personnel throughout the season. There were 10 events held such as "Taking Care of your Garden Tools, Hoses, Storage and Safety", meetings to help gardeners prepare for the Eddy County Fair, and other training. At each of the 10 events there was an average of 14 attendees/participants and some of the events were co-hosted by the Artesia Garden Club and Roswell Garden Club. Partnering with Artesia Garden Club in 2024 provided many opportunities for the community gardeners to share and exchange seeds, produce and flowers. Artesia Leo Club (Lion's Club kids) held an open house for a literacy project in which a Little Free Library was built and installed in the garden. The garden continues to be funded by both public and private funding as well as in-kind materials and services by area individuals and businesses such as Tractor Supply and Walmart. 9045 0 40 WOMEN FOR A BETTER ARTESIA- is a group of women who serve Artesia, NM by providing educational and volunteer opportunities aimed at enhancing quality of life. The various volunteers with the projects fiscally sponsored by Greater Artesia Foundation closely monitor how the grants are utilized.
