<PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>The mission of the Horizon Ensemble is to enrich the artistic and cultural lives of our communities of musicians and audiences through our orchestral concerts. We serve the community of the Boston area by providing accessible musical performances at no cost in a historical space. We also support the community of musicians in Boston by acting as a high-level ensemble playing unique repertoire with a relatively short rehearsal cycle. Finally, we further the artistic development of the community of young composers by providing them with performances of large-ensemble pieces, a much-desired opportunity.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Horizon Ensemble Concert, No. 6: Flow was delivered on March 5, 2023. A concert of flowing orchestral music! Featuring music by Felix Mendelssohn, Marcea McGuire, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Gordon Jacob. About this Event As we began to break the winter freeze, Horizon Ensemble invited folks to get into the flow of the oncoming spring with some music old and new. The Horizon Ensemble is an orchestra that plays music by friends & music of history and will be presenting music centered around the theme of "flow." The concert started with More Old Wine in New Bottles by Gordon Jacob, a casting of four English folk songs reimagined for wind and brass instruments. Next, the ensemble flew through the airy notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Overture to The Magic Flute. What followed was a premiere of our friend Marcea McGuire's new piece Flow, inspired by flowing air and poetry. Finally, the concert finished with Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, nicknamed the "Scottish Symphony," inspired by his travels in the winds and waters of Scotland.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Horizon Ensemble Concert 7: Across the Pond, was delivered on August 19, 2023. "The day has grown old; the fainting sun has but a little way to run...". As the flame of summer burned its westward light, Horizon Ensemble invited their music fans to come and enjoy serenades of revered places and nocturnal beauty. The Horizon Ensemble is an orchestra that plays music by friends & music of history. We'll highlight local Boston composers, American trailblazer Charles Ives, and the British composer Benjamin Britten. A Serenade for Winds opened the program, written by four friends of the Horizon Ensemble: Amber Dai, Brian Daniel Ross, Enrique Hernández de Tejada III, and Julian Gau. Next: Charles Ives's Three Places in New England, a wild romp through three New England landmarks, including one in the Boston Public Garden! Last was Benjamin Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, a menagerie of odes to the subtle graces of nighttime. This piece will feature tenor Felix Aguilar Tomlinson and horn player Jack Krugman.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Horizon Ensemble Concert 8: Branches and Dances was delivered on December 17, 2023. "While thy branches mix with mine, and our roots together join." Shadows lengthen and reveal the beauty of the branches above us as we dance through these December days. The Horizon Ensemble is an orchestra that plays music by friends and music of history. The concert started by performing the world premiere of act Natural ~ by composer and violist Elsie Bae Han. This piece featured cellist Olivia Katz and twenty-one string players - not only playing but also walking around and talking. The audience were to find out what it really means to act natural! Next, it was Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A major, a well-loved gem of the orchestral world. Each movement features its own characteristic rhythmic energy, from the stately, severe Allegretto to the boisterous, rollicking finale. What a blast!</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Horizon Ensemble founded on May 31st, 2021. The application for an IRS 501(c)3 status was filed in December 2022 and received the IRS approval on Feb 15, 2023. The effective date of exemption was set on May 31st, 2021, per our request. The Horizon Ensemble will be operating based on fiscal year ending on December 31st. The first filing of Horizon Ensemble's FY22 Tax Return could be for 1/1/2022 to 12/31/2022. However, given that Horizon Ensemble's operating revenue has been under $50,000 since inception, Horizon Ensemble is not required to file a 990EZ return form. Annual ePostcard filings were performed for 2022, 2023, and 2024. Horizon Ensemble did want to file the 990EZ simply to build a sound financial track record for this organization. However, in 2023, when we attempted to do the on-line 990EZ filing for our 2021- and 2022-income tax returns, we found a mistake made in our IRS registration record. For whatever reasons, the entity's name for Horizon Ensemble showed up in the IRS's record as "Julian Gau". Julian Gau is the founder of Horizon Ensemble. Somehow there was a mixed up in the registered entity name for this EIN 87-3058480. While we have submitted two change requests via physical US mails to the IRS since several months ago. We have not received any response from the IRS, yet. While we wait, we had to delay our on-line 990EZ filing process. Not hearing back from the IRS for more than several months, while other grant application processes have been going on still, we feel that it would make sense for us to just file the on-line 990EZ still while we continue to wait for the IRS to get back to us on our request for the entity name correction. This was the reason why we are filing our 990EZ via this online portal this late in the year.</ExplanationTxt>
