For 2024, the foundation funded the addition of 997 items. 14385 14385 Book Buddies - During summer months when students do not have access to their school libraries, McMinnville Public Library reaches out with its bookmobile to bring books and activities to underserved neighborhoods. The children are excited to meet the bookmobile when it comes, receiving free books, borrowing books, participating in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) projects, and maintaining their energy with healthy snacks. The team offering these services comprises both paid library staff and volunteers. Foundation assistance includes funding for promotional and supplies costs. The board has made Book Buddies an ongoing part of its support for the library, as it does with Collection Enhancement. For 2024, Book Buddies took the bookmobile to five different neighborhoods once a week for nine weeks, 1.5 hours per visit. This outreach was promoted in partnership with McMinnville Parks & Recreation, also known as "Read and Play", and served 1,073 program participants. The Foundation also funded the addition of more than 200 books and DVDs to the bookmobile lending collection. 10403 5183 COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Design, printing, and mailing of informational material to promote services provided by the library are part of the Foundation's support to McMinnville Public Library. These materials increase community awareness of diverse services and resources such as home delivery, Library of Things, movie streaming, technical help, puzzle and game lending, eBooks and Audiobooks, teen programs, Summer Fun activities, and story times for young children. 5032 5032 FACILITY AND EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENTS - In 2024, the Foundation made possible the purchase of additional shelving and chairs for the Library. This enhanced the usability and expanded the Collection of Books and associated materials. The Library Foundation of McMinnville supports only the McMinnville (Oregon) Public Library (see this schedule, Part I, Line 11g). The Foundation's relationship with the Library meets both the "Attentiveness and Responsiveness" tests, as follows: The Foundation's Articles of Incorporation, Section IV, 2, require the inclusion of the Library's Director as a nonvoting ex officio member of its board. In practice, the Library Director actively participates in and contributes to the agenda of Foundation meetings, weighs in on the amounts of money the Foundation spends on library needs and largely defines those needs. The Director spends part of each meeting reporting to the board how library programs have performed with the Foundation's annual draft budget, in concert with the Foundation's treasurer. Except for the fact that the Library Director does not have a vote, she is as actively and materially engaged in the Foundation's business as any other board member. The Foundation and the Library Director are each an integral part of the same undertaking. Part V, Section D, Line 8: Distributions To Attentive Supported Organizations The amount distributed to, or on behalf of, McMinnville Public Library is the same as the total distributions for the year (line 1 of this schedule), as the Library is the "attentive supported organization to which the organization is responsive."
