      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>A. March 1-8, 20241. Agriculture Training in the Municipality of Aborlan, Palawan ProvinceRPRC volunteers conducted training in The Ethnos Tribal Training Center which is located in Sitio Katuwangtuwang, Sagpangan, Aborfan. Community leaders and members from various communities travelled from their respective areas to participate in a five-day training in agriculture. These leaders have ministries among the several indigenous people groups such as the Palawano tribe, Tagbanua Tribe, and Batac tribe, to name a few.The topics covered included how to make our soil living and healthy so that these communities will become successful in growing their own food. The trainers taught the participants how to build a thermal compost, vermi composting, and making biochar using rice hulls as part of the process of building healthy garden soil. One of RPRC's values is to promote the use of materials found in the Environment to make all these inputs.All topics are demo based which means all participants participate in hands on demonstrations to learn the steps of every farming practice being taught.Another main topic in the training is about minimum tillage approach to farming. Traditionally, Filipino farmers plowed and pulverized their land in preparation to planting their crops. Even government agriculture personnel emphasized this practice among the farmers. In this training, the trainers gently communicated to the participants that this is not according to the Creator's design in nature, and that less disturbance of the soil and mulching are the far better approaches to farming.Seed saving training was another major topic which was extremely relevant. Most farmers do not have access to quality seeds; hence, their food production is also limited. Their usual sources of seeds are the local government, agricultural stores if they have the money to buy, their neighbors, or seeds handed down to them from family members. Majority of the time, these seeds are not the type that farmers could save seeds from.To show the farmers how to put their gardens together using the concept of no till in their gardens, the trainers created a 20x 20 garden. The farmers got to experience how to clear their plots without digging or pulverizing the soil. Then the application of the compost and biochar mixture came next. Then putting the mulch on top of the plot. The next day, the farmers planted the seedlings and the trainers emphasized the concept of crop rotation.2. Animal ClinicThe other half of the RPRC team, meanwhile that the agriculture training was ongoing, was conducting animal clinics in various communities for five days. The rural areas in the Philippines have a dire need of veterinary services due to animal over population, stray dogs and cats, and rabies infections. RPRC responded to the requests of these communities to help them. So our veterinarian volunteers did services in spaying, neutering, and giving rabies injections.Some Filipino veterinarians came to the training to take advantage of learning more techniques from the RPRC veterinarians from the USA. In the same way, the US vets also learned so much from the local verterinarians.3. After the outreach in Palawan, the agriculture team continued on to Davao Province to hold training among the Manobo tribe farmers.B. August 25-September 21, 2024: Follow-up trip.After such a big training conducted by RPRC in the first quarter of 2024, follow-up visits to the respective areas of the farmers was necessary. Having one-one interactions with the farmers would give understanding of the challenges they are facing. A small RPRC team traveled first to Brooke's Point, Palawan, where one community leader lives with his family. This leader had requested the RPRC training to be brought to Balabac Island to teach the Malbog tribe natural approach to farming. So a team of four took a speedboat to this particular island to assess whether the RPRC programs would be a good fit. From Balabac, the team proceeded to Taburi, Rizal to meet farmers from Camantian and surrounding areas. It was great to see much progress. From Palawan, Cora Carter, the RPRC president, proceeded to Davao Province to meet with the Manobo tribe farmers and then to Sarangani Province with a specific purpose of meeting with the leader of a group of 34 churches which requested RPRC for a training in 2025.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
