Together, we created 89 home libraries featuring 1,800 carefully selected bilingual books for preschool-aged children (3-5 years old) from local Spanish-speaking families. Our goal is to foster school readiness, enhance language skills, and instill a lifelong love of reading. By providing bilingual books, both non-English-speaking parents and their English-speaking older children can share in reading aloud, strengthening family bonds and language development. Families were identified through Adult ESL programs, preschool support initiatives, corporations with Spanish-speaking employees, and local libraries. Our 25 years of experience have shown that partnering with successful local organizations amplifies community impact. Adult ESL programs, particularly those serving parents of young children, have been especially effective, benefiting both parents and their preschoolers through access to rich bilingual resources.
