The seminar was refined in preparation for a meeting with 70 Christian lawyers and judges and the result was overwhelmingly positive. The core idea of bringing understanding to printed words by speaking them--that understanding is actually embedded in the way we speak the words resonated with the lawyers and judges. It is hands-on and lively with a foundation in performance studies and communication. The emphasis during the session is on understanding the passage so that it can be communicated. Trying to communicate something that you dont understand is confusing for everybody. After some initial groundwork participants working in teams of two do a series of exercises that focus on different aspects of the passage. We struggle against the idea that recitation is just memorizing words and our best weapon is a well-trained and aligned leader who can see if the direction of a recitation ministry is going off-course. The study consists of a reference book for reciting Scripture titled Foundations of Speaking the Bible and a series of Activity Guides. We plan to develop 40 Activity Guides over the next three years. Our first Guide Speaking 1st Corinthians was completed and a beta-testing group tried it with excellent success. This Bible study program service will allow us to reach a vastly greater number of people. Part VI, Section B, Line 1 In October 2023 one of our voting members was hired to serve as the communications director for our organization. Since this could be seen as a conflict of interest that member has had their voting privilege revoked. This reduced the number of voting members from 5 to 4. The member is still valuable member of the board and their perspective is still heard. Part VI, Line 15 The salary for our one employee was discussed during our Board of Directors meeting on both June 13th 2024 and September 17th 2024. She was hired on November 1st 2024. The Form 1023 Determination Letter was also made available via a link on the By Heart website https: byheart.org Part I Line 6 | Explanation:| Recitation Coordinators volunteer to recruit people to recite to arrange schedules and to coach people to prepare for their recitations. They are the key contacts for a church working with By Heart and are one of our key volunteer groups. They are involved on average 3 hours per week. There are currently 8 recitation coordinators. Other volunteers help to setup By Heart celebration events. There were 4 volunteers last year. They work ad hoc and I would estimate about 25 hours for the year. Finally the 5 By Heart board members 4 voting members and 1 non-voting member help with connecting us to churches who may be interested in the mission of By Heart and with people who may like to participate or donate to the mission. This entails an average of 5 hours a week including quarterly board and monthly innovation meetings.
