(HJF) is a nonprofit women's organization committed to providing charitable services to children, youth, women, and senior adults in the Greater Houston area. 0 0 90758 80500 HJF College Scholarship Program: Houston Junior Forum, Inc. established its college scholarship program in March 1976, benefiting the best-qualified high school graduates who attended pre-school at the HJF Community Houston Preschool. The preschool closed in May of 2009, however, HJF continues to grant college scholarships to graduating former HJF preschool students. Qualified students receive grants up to $3,000 for each academic year to use towards tuition, books, clothing, or living expenses. For the 2023-2024 academic year, 20 students received scholarships. The Shop earnings support HJF programming and charitable outreach. The committee reviews all grant applications to ensure they meet certain established requirements, and in-person site visits are made to each potential grant recipient. All applications are then rated based upon a lengthy grading system and the committee ranks the applicants and selects the grant recipients. All grant monies must be utilized within 12 months and the grantees must provide a final report to HJF that includes receipts for the use of all funds. These reports are reviewed by the committee and any grantee unable to use its funds must return the unused portion. The college scholarship committee is comprised of at least 8 members who award scholarships to qualified recipients and monitor each recipient throughout his/her education career. If a recipient is no longer eligible for an award, the committee makes sure the student refunds the scholarship to the Houston Junior Forum.
