PPL is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees and administered and operated by a team of professional staff. The Library's policy is not to capitalize these collections. Each of the items are cataloged, cared for and preserved. All proceeds resulting from the deaccessioning of objects from the collection shall be allocated for the benefit of the collections. Part III, Line 4: The Library maintains and develops a variety of resources used in the direct support of its mission of public education and meeting the information needs of southern Maine citizens. The collections include substantial print and media items as well as archival and digital collections that are lent and/or made available through the Library's website. The collections are primarily received as gifts or purchased through the endowment and earned income generated by the Library and number over 600,000 items. Part V, Line 4: The intended uses of the significant endowment funds are to support general operations and to build the Library's collections. The Library also has endowments to support the Library's programs. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 11b The prepared Form 990 is reviewed by the Finance Committee and provided to the Board of Trustees prior to filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 12c New Board members, who are generally elected in June, attend an orientation in the summer at which the Board's by-laws are reviewed, including its conflict of interest policy (Article XI). Examples of conflicts are discussed at orientation to familiarize Board members with the concept and new Board members are provided with the Board's conflict of interest questionnaire to fill out. Board members are educated on their responsibility to raise the issue of a conflict if one should arise relating to any particular topic before the Board. New and continuing Board members are then also required to fill out the Board's conflict of interest questionnaire annually at the Board's September meeting. The Board president reviews all conflict of interest questionnaires to determine whether there is any standing conflict of interest disclosed in such questionnaires. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, line 15b The Search Committee reviewed comparability data prior to establishing the compensation of the Executive Director. Thereafter, the change in compensation has been subject to the collective bargaining agreement with all other employees. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, line 19 The Library's By-laws, which contain conflict of interest provisions, are available on the website. The financial statements are available upon request. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2c: There were no changes to the audit selection process from the prior year.
