Our goal is to gather community support for agriculture and its journey from farm to table. Prior to our non-profit status, we conducted three pilot programs with Kapiolani Community College (part of the University of Hawaii system). The two most recent programs were featured as one credit courses at the college (one for the Chocolate Experience and one for a Coffee Experience). 0 X 0 On January 12 - 14, 2024, we held a one credit (registered with Kapiolani Community College), three day immersive coffee class with students and staff from Kapiolani Community College. We went through coffee sensory, roasting, and the farm to cup experience. It was another successful event and the class offered was oversubscribed. Businesses donated to the event and did not ask request for deduction of contributions (time spent, materials, etc). The Pono Collective has worked with the Kapiolani Community College's Culinary Institute of the Pacific (KCC-CIP) to teach two (1) credit courses (Cacao in 2023 and Coffee in 2024). We are reformatting the curriculum this year (2025) as KCC-CIP would like to offer a multi-credit course (2 or 3 credits) given the amount of learning opportunities our program has been able to provide. It is an exciting time for our young non-profit and we look forward to finding a rhythm that can maximize learning opportunities for students.
