We fulfill this mission through advocacy and education including public events like tours and workshops. We are a voice for preservation and an information resource for homeowners residents businesses and developers as well as city state and national organizations and government agencies. Educational program focused on historic preservation. Our "Houses of Change" tour on October 13 2024 explored architectural adaptation and change in 19th-century residential homes. Restorations and renovations can and should be done with sensitivity to traditional building methods and materials. Helping you to "get your house right" is part of our mission. 48 people attended the tour. 60 people attended the reception afterwards. Our 2024 Janes Walk program featured a walking tour of South Norwalks historic districts focused on two major projects in this urban space the replacement of the railroad bridge and two historic buildings that will be demolished to make way for a hotel project. We talked with residents in front of their homes and with business owners in their establishments. More than 20 people attended. This was a free event with NPT leadership donating their time and expertise. The first issue was our opposition to the demolition of two historic buildings on South Main Street in South Norwalk. We sent three dedicated emails two Letters from the President one Call to Action asking the public the write letters to the State Historic Preservation Office opposing the demolitions. NPT also submitted a letter in opposition. See the Current News section of our web site for more about the response to this effort and its outcome. The second issue was Connecticut House Bill 5433 which would have allowed property developers to pay to bypass the State Historic Preservation Offices review process. We sent a Call to Action email in March with subsequent updates in our newsletters.
