(AFAID) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and public charity located in Washington, DC. Our mission is to provide youth with the tools, knowledge and resources to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections, and alleviate poverty.AFAID objective is to address the very factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS infection. Due to the extreme poverty among the youth we serve, priority is given to basic needs, such as food and school supplies. We will continue to help educate these children so that they can overcome illiteracy. We know that too many children live in silence with the harsh reality of poverty, hunger, and HIV/AIDS and we work to help to restore hope and joy to these children's lives. We will continue to invest all that we can in these children in order to help build a brighter future. HIV/AIDS Awareness Clubs created in some schools are doing a great job to involve young boys and girls in our prevention program. AFAID trains members of the club and provide them with basic information regarding HIV, AIDS, and other Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs). Members of the clubs connect easily with their respective communities when it comes to testing, discussing safer sex behavior, and including HIV prevention messages in their daily lives. Our organization, African Aid Organization, is a small nonprofit that operates entirely through volunteer efforts and received less than $30,000 in donations for the year in question. The delay in filing our Form 990 was due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control. Specifically, our organization experienced a lack of awareness regarding the filing of such contributions received. Due to these circumstances, we were unable to file our return by the required deadline. Please note that this oversight was not due to willful neglect but rather an unintentional error resulting from our organization's limited resources. As a small nonprofit with no paid staff, we rely entirely on volunteers to manage our operations, including the preparation and submission of tax documents. During the period in question, we experienced communication challenges. These factors contributed to our delayed submission. This is the first time our organization has missed a filing deadline, and we have taken corrective measures to ensure future compliance. Specifically, we have implemented a system of calendar reminders and designated a volunteer responsible for overseeing future filings. Additionally, we have educated our leadership team on the importance of timely compliance with IRS requirements.
