Tropical infectious neglected diseases are, by definition, the most neglected and underfunded infectious diseases that affect the poorest people in the world. ITENDs maintains a continuous and bona fide program for solicitation by having ongoing fundraising efforts proportionate to its activities, such as through continuous campaigns to solicit donations and public support. Our board members have been actively seeking donations from individuals and organizations. We have been contacting as many people as we know who can be donors. Unfortunately, we have not yet found donors who are willing to donate. When asked, it is because they are hesitant to donate to a new organization. Additional feedback is potential donors want to see more progress by ITENDs before donating. We also have been trying to apply for grants, but most grant agencies did not want to donate to a new entity without a track record. Furthermore, there are very few agencies that fund tropical infectious neglected diseases. Government grants usually fund activities related to more common infectious diseases such as HIV or pneumonia. Thus, it has been extremely difficult to obtain funds but the board members continue trying to solicit funds. ITENDs has received donations from one of its board members and these donations have been applied to a partnership with Yoda Healthcare & Education (a NGO in Liberia, West Africa) to build hospital infrastructure to combat tropical infectious neglected diseases. We are hopeful that once the hospital is in Liberia has been completely built, it will be easier to fund raise from donors since they will see the hospital and the progress that has been made and be more willing to donate. The governing body of ITENDs includes the three board members who represent the broad interests of the public. One board member is a medical doctor who has specialized training in tropical infectious neglected diseases. The second board member is a scientist who has specialization in the development of new medicines. A third board member is a clinical laboratory scientist with expertise in regulation and who has worked in the California State Public Health Department and who has also worked in Africa as a volunteer, setting up laboratory infrastructure in Nigeria. All the board members are unpaid volunteers, have no financial incentives, and are not related. Since ITENDs mission is related to tropical infectious neglected diseases, these board members bring their expertise to help with the mission of the organization. The ITENDs organization has been providing facilities for the benefit of the general public on a continuing basis: ITENDs expenditures have been to support the construction of a hospital in Liberia, West Africa with a partner NGO. The hospital will support the diagnosis and treatment of patients who suffer from tropical infectious neglected diseases.
