<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>One-day workshop, "Decolonial Wordlbuilding in Science-Fiction and Fantasy," taught by Helen Gould, September 21, 2024. This one-day workshop with instructor Helen Gould helped writers to identify and challenge the common tropes they might automatically be relying on when creating fictional worlds. In the first half, they explored foundational literary theories about colonisation and its impact on culture; in the second half, they looked at how decolonial thinking can apply to the creative process and inspire different kinds of worlds.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Online do-it-yourself workshop with Suzan Palumbo, July 6-7 2024. In this webinar, Nebula Award finalist Suzan Palumbo explored what it is traditional workshops offer and how you might be able to recreate that experience and improve your craft on your own, all from the comfort of your home. After this class students will: * Have an understanding of what long-term workshops offer and strategies to mimic them. * See how the instructor was able to improve her craft without attending a long-term workshop. * Know how to get the most out of online critique sites. * Begin to identify weak areas in their writing and create a plan for improvement. * Have an awareness of free and low-cost resources available to them to help improve their craft. * Have a bibliography of online and physical resources. * Have practice with analyzing a piece of fiction and strategies for applying this analysis when approaching their own work.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Modern Cosmic Horror, an online weekend workshop with Premee Mohamed June 1-2, 2024. In this two-day class, award-winning author Premee Mohamed went beyond tentacled gods and non-euclidean geometries to explore not only the history of cosmic horror, its whys and hows, but also its modern transformation, especially in the hands of marginalised writers. They also touched on how various media can add to the form, from video games to audio dramas and beyond. Through in-class discussion and with Premee's instruction, students learned how to use the tools, techniques, and storytelling forms that will allow them to craft the unsettling stories of their hearts.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
