The Black Robe Podcast produced over 25 new episodes offering intergenerational dialogue on legal and policy issues impacting communities of color. Through guest interviews and timely discussions the podcast served as a hub for civic education and public discourse. Additionally IBJ hosted a range of community events and learning forums through the IBJ Institute further deepening engagement with youth families and justice system stakeholders. A major milestone in 2024 was the launch of Unlocking Justice a new civil legal aid initiative designed to expand access for individuals and families historically harmed by racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. In collaboration with community organizations members of the Pierce County Minority Bar and nonprofit and private law firms the program supports legal relief related to drug possession convictions-specifically vacating eligible criminal convictions eliminating legal financial obligations and restoring civil rights. Phase I of the program focused on Pierce County residents with Phase II set to expand services statewide. Part III Line 4 | Explanation:| Family Wellbeing Program: In 2024 IBJs Family Wellbeing Programs continued to center families-particularly those of Black African descent-through culturally rooted trauma-responsive services. The CHIMES Family Advocacy Program marked its fourth year providing prevention reunification and retention case management to families at risk of or currently involved in the child welfare system. Three CHIMES cohorts were hosted graduating 34 parents and caregivers. Several of these graduates stepped into leadership as peer mentors or were hired as lived experience team members to support new families entering the program. IBJ formally established CHIMES-Prevention CHIMES-P as a separate service stream in 2024 to support families before CPS involvement. CHIMES-P expanded use of the "Five Point Plan to Thrive," a goal-setting and planning tool and continued to offer financial literacy and coaching through partnerships with TAPCO Credit Union Sound Outreach and ACCEL 180. The BABAS Fathers Support Group a twice-weekly online space for Black and multiracial fathers with children in dependency also adopted the Plan to Thrive curriculum in 2024. With new funding from the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Pierce County Early Childhood Network BABAS offered stipends to fathers participating in the program. ACES IBJs leadership initiative for young adults aged 18-35 deepened its engagement with emerging social justice leaders through education internships employment pathways and entrepreneurial support. Finally in 2024 IBJ laid the foundation for a new program: FEMI. Born of an idea to offer intentional gender-responsive support for Black mothers navigating systems of surveillance and control FEMI entered the planning and development phase this year. The FEMI model will launch in 2025 with a focus on maternal well-being self-advocacy and community healing.
