We educate Americans and others about the impacts of war and provide information to US Veterans and their families and the general public about Agent Orange/Dioxin. 0 0 76050 4612 0 Support to People with Disabilities in Laos: The project identifies and provides health care and educational support to children and youths with disabilities along the former Ho Chi Minh Trail area of Laos. The project surveyed 126 villages in 5 districts of Salavan and Savannakhet provinces of Laos along the former Ho Chi Minh Trail area. It raised awareness in villages and district government offices about the potential health and environmental impacts of use of dioxin contaminated herbicides during the American war in Laos and the types of birth defects and disabilities the project could help address. Over 500 children and adults under the age of 55 with congenital malformations and birth defects were identified.The projects assisted ten children from rural Savannkhet and Salavan province to travel to Vientiane for Medical care and a young child from rural Xieng Khoang to travel to Vientiane for Chemotherapy. 77298 74003 0 Humanitarian Assistance Program for People with Disabilities: The program focuses on poor families in Vietnam with one or more children with severe and/or multiple disabilities. In partnership with the Quang Nam Red Cross the program provided direct assistance to 63 families that included 73 children/youths with disabilities in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. This included assisting with livelihood support, improving housing conditions, supporting the costs of medical care and/or adaptive equipment, or supporting educational expenses. A grant to the Office of Genetic Counseling and Disabled children at the Hue School of Medicine supported the physical therapy of dozens of children and the operating costs for an early intervention center in Nam Dong District, Thua Thien Hue province Vietnam that provides rehabilitation, basic education and self-care skills for 6 severely disabled children. The project also supported the school fees for young girl who was born without limbs, so that she could attend the 10th grade. 41377 0 0 Agent Orange Education Project: Provides information to veterans and their families, non-profits, students, journalists, film-makers and the general public about the impacts of Agent Orange/Dioxin, Unexploded ordnance and other war legacies on human health and the environment. The $629 was the difference in the exchange rate if the funds had not been converted into Vietnamese dong in the US by TD bank instead of being sent as US Dollars to be converted by the bank in Vietnam. East Asia and the Pacific 13 5615 cash payment and bank transfer 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Schedule F, Part I, Line 2 The Executive Director travels to Vietnam and meets with each of the families/individuals that receive support through our project to assist people with disabilities and makes the final decision on whether they meet the program criteria of having a disability and near the poverty level for the region. Following the support the ED visits the family again to ensure that the agreed upon support was provided. In Laos a survey is completed of the people with disabilities in the districts the program works. The Lao staff and executive Director review the information gathered on each person and in consultation with local doctors determines which individuals will be sent for medical services. All expenses are documented and reviewed by the ED. Large expenses or long-term treatments such as chemotherapy or multiple surgeries are per-approved by the ED before they are begun. The ED travels to Laos to meet with local staff and to meet where possible those who have received medical care.
