We also offer scholarships to members and their families. We are also actively engaged in activities intended to document, distribute, and preserve the history and legacy of the 102nd Cavalry since its inception in 1890. 0 0 Essex Troop Scholarship Program: Each year, our organization offers four (4) $1000 scholarships to qualified applicants in direct support of their post high school education. In 2025, due to the increased number of applicants, we allocated $7000 for scholarships. Veterans' baseball Outing, Annual Unit Muster, Annual Unit Business Meeting, Annual Holiday Event, etc.: Our organization conducts a number of annual veterans and active duty events and activities for our members and their families. Regimental Heritage Initiative (RHI): Our association conducts various activities designed to educate the public while also fostering and preserving our unit heritage and legacy. These activities include: researching unit history, deployments, accomplishments, etc.; digitizing all hardcopy unit records, journals, maps,etc.; maintaining and improving display areas at the NJARNG armory in West Orange, NJ; constructing replica "Culin Cutters" for display at museums; redesigning and launching a new website; actively participating in local Memorial Day and Veterans' day activities; publishing a newsletter; and placing memorial bricks at various museums and military facilities and organizations. 15000 In the Fall of 2024, our Association worked with the National D-Day Memorial located in Bedford, VA to design, construct and install a plaque at their memorial that commemorates the participation of the 102nd Cavalry Group (Mech) and the 102nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mech) in the D-Day landings in Normandy, France, in 1944 4125 Our organization actively supports a number of other military-oriented 501 (c) organizations and institutions such as the National Armor and Cavalry Foundation, the museum of the US Army, NJ Veterans Homes, the National Guard and Milkitia Museum of New Jersey, etc. 7000 Our organization awarded a total of $7000 in scholarships in 2024. 8907 Our organization conducts and annual business meeting, and annual unit muster, a veterans' holiday party, a veterans' baseball outing, etc. 21416 Our organization is actively working to preserve the legacy of the 102nd Cavalry. We also have an extensive photo and document archive that date back to 1890. Our items only have value to our organization since they are items that the unit used or wore over the years. Schedule D, Part III, Line 4 Our association maintains an archive of unit records dating back to 1890 that include records, photos and documents from the Mexican Border Campaign, WW1, WW2, etc. These documents have been digitized and made available to the public via our website, www.102cav.org. We also give presentations to public organizations to tell the story of the 102nd Cavalry. We also have a collection of wear-related unit items and captured items that came back to the unit after the war.
