Our Child Sponsorship program partners with Mana de Vida school in Escuintla. Sponsors become "aunts and uncles" to impoverished children there. The sponsor communicates with them and encourages them as they grow and change. Each child receives 17 meals per week, school uniforms, basic medical care, excellent education, spiritual direction, and additional physical, emotional, and family support. We also support students learning a microbusiness trade such as welding or baking as well as providing extra income and bonuses to teachers. Other programs include a anew building of a new campus of Mana de Vida School and construction and repair of students' homes. 25093 25093 27477 Tios for Hope supports health and nutrition in Guatemala. Guatemala has one of the highest rates of malnutrition for young children in the world. Tios for Hope started a nutrition project that specifically targets pregnant women and children 6 months to 3 years old. The product used is NutriListo (website listo.gt). NutriListo is made in Guatemala with nutrients specifically made to fill the gaps n the Guatemalan diet. The product is affordable and readily available. Our partner measures children monthly in order to evaluate he effectiveness of the project. Tios for Hope also supports healthcare clinics that provide health and dental care in Escuintla, Guatemala City, and Antigua. 72463 74463 73643 Tios for Hope supports justice in Guatemala. We partner with Lifting Her Up ministries which provides support to women in rural areas as well as policewomen in Guatemala City. In addition, we support Mana de Vida in developing partnerships with local authorities and other agencies to help end physical and sexual abuse/trafficking. In making such grants, Tios for Hope complies with the requirement of the Internal Revenue Code 4999(C) and makes an equivalency determination as described in Treasury Regulation Section 53.4945-5(A) (5) (i) and performs expenditure responsibility as described in 4945(H). In performing expenditure responsibility, Tios for Hope 1) undertakes a pre-grant inquiry with reasonable determination that the intended grantee is capable of fulfilling the charitable purpose of the grant 2) executes a grant agreement that includes spending and reporting responsibilities and commits and grantee organization to spend the funds only for the specified charitable purposes stated in the grant agreement, 3) requires the grantee organization to submit to Tios for Hope regular status reports on the expenditure of the funds and the progress made in fulfilling the charitable purpose of the grant, and 4) reports each such grant to the IRS on its information return (Form 990) with requisite accompanying description in compliance with Treasury Regulation 53-4945-5(D). Tios for Hope complies with the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) Regulations, and therefore, any grants made to foreign charitable organizations must not violate OFAC's country-based sanctions programs. Further, charitable grants must not involve trade or transaction activities with sanction targets on OFAC's list of specially designated nations and blocked persons. Each grant is ultimately subject to Tios for Hope due diligence procedures (including review of the recommended grant recipient and the recommended purpose of the grant) and the approval of the Board of Trustees of Tios for Hope. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b As part of the process of preparing Tios for Hope, IRS Form 990, the treasurer shared and reviewed the form with Tios for Hope finance committee. The treasurer then shared the form with the Board members and answered the Board's questions. The form is distributed to each board member. Upon receiving board approval, the form 990 is filed with the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The Tios for Hope Board monitors conflict of interest once a year at its first quarterly meeting. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 Pursuant to and consistent with IRS regulations, Tios for Hope makes copies available of its applications for recognition of exemption through its website (tiosforhope.org) as well as on an as requested basis. Tios for Hope makes its annual return available for public inspection on the website for a period of three years. The return includes all information furnished by Tios for Hope to the IRS on Form 990 as well as all its schedules, attachments, and supporting documents, except for the name and address of any contributor to Tios for Hope. In addition, governing documents and conflict of interest policy are available on the website.
