      <PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>Charitable: Our goal at Pfood Pfairness in Pflugerville Schools is to ensure every student has access to hot, nourishing meals without worrying about debt or embarrassment. No child should ever have to choose between hunger and humiliation. As a student-founded, student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit fighting food insecurity and inequity in our school district, our goal is to provide families with the necessary funds to reduce the financial burden of the students' lunch costs, ensuring all students have equal access to equitable meals and keeping families out of collections.</PrimaryExemptPurposeTxt>
      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Our purpose is charitable. Pfood Pfairness paid the outstanding school lunch debts for families in Pflugerville ISD who were in financial need. These families have a household income too high to qualify for the help they need with the free and reduced lunch program, but not enough to be able to afford the school lunch prices they're charged. When these families start accruing debt, the students are given an alternative lunch consisting of a cold cheese sandwich. Students are charged for this replacement meal, adding to their families' debts and perpetuating the cycle. At the end of the school year, families who owe are sent to collections, often ruining their credit and exacerbating problems for those already in financial crisis. Pfood Pfairness pays the debts, ensuring the children can continue to receive hot, nourishing meals and keeping the families out of collections. Some families reach out to us directly for debt assistance and others are brought to our attention by the school district with identifying student information redacted due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Because we are blind to all information except campus attended and debt amount, we cannot differentiate families receiving repeated help from those who only receive it once. In 2024, Pfood Pfairness paid a total of $57,070.31 across 6,495 account credits on 18 different funding days from January through May and then again from August through December. Though it's possible each account credit was made to a different family, a more feasible estimate is that 700-800 families were helped with their lunch debts and saved from collections thanks to Pfood Pfairness' efforts and assistance. Because funding to provide debt relief and funding to provide future meals for students happen concurrently, there is no way to allocate program service expenses to them individually. Subsequently, program service expenses for providing debt assistance are estimated and were calculated by subtracting expenses related to public education from the total expenses and then multiplying the difference by the ratio of money used for debt payments to total grants.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Our purpose is charitable. School lunch debt is a problem for districts across the nation. At the end of every school year, the debt to the food service provider must be paid by the school district, as required by USDA federal law. If there are negative balances beyond what is anticipated, the district must repay them out of funds originally allocated for student programs and teacher resources meant to enhance educational experiences for all. Helping those families in need by pre-emptively funding student accounts not only ensures children have access to hot meals and averts their potential embarrassment, it also prevents an ever-increasing lunch debt that, first, falls on the district to repay to the food services company and, then, sends families to collections to recoup the funds for the district. Every dollar Pfood Pfairness paid toward the debts of district families was a dollar Pflugerville ISD did not have to pay at the end of the school year, benefitting the district as a whole. In 2024, because Pfood Pfairness contributed $57,070.31 to pay student lunch debts, Pflugerville ISD did not need to reallocate funds meant for teacher resources and student programs, nor did they have to use the money budgeted specifically for anticipated debt, allowing them to put those funds toward programs at risk of being cut due to budget constraints. Consequently, by helping those families in need, Pfood Pfairness also helped ensure every teacher and student in the district benefitted. The grant amount and program service fees for this accomplishment are already accounted for in our first accomplishment listed.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Our purpose is charitable. Pfood Pfairness funded lunch accounts for Pflugerville ISD students to cover the cost of hot meals, ensuring they did not receive the alternative cold, cheese sandwich the district serves if money is owed. At the beginning of 2024, to qualify for free lunch, the household monthly income limit was $3,250 for a family of four. The limit includes everyone in the household, including a teenager who works, and it is the same in every state, not taking into consideration cost of living differences. Students helped are in financial need but do not receive the assistance they need from the free and reduced lunch program, usually because of a household income just out of qualifying range. Accounts were funded at least every two weeks, helping an average of 463 students each time. Throughout 2024, a total of $19,900.69 was added for students across 6,494 account credits on 18 different funding days from January to May and then again from August through December. Though it's possible each account credit ensured hot lunches for different students, a more feasible estimate is that 700-800 were provided funds for meals. Over this time, funding for 31,396 hot meals was provided for students across 27 campuses--14,013 lunches at the high school level, 3,254 in middle school, and 12,626 at the elementary level. Prior to Pfood Pfairness' intervention, these students were either receiving a cold cheese sandwich for lunch and suffering the humiliation of having their entree replaced in front of their peers, or they were avoiding lunch completely, preferring hunger over embarrassment. Many of these students come from low income families and are considered at risk, and some are even athletes trying to make the entire school day and after school practice or a game with just the free breakfast to sustain them. Providing these children with a hot meal and the nourishment they need to be successful in school, academically and otherwise, while also sparing them the social consequences of receiving the alternative lunch, is Pfood Pfairness' primary mission. Because funding to provide debt relief and funding to provide future meals for students happen concurrently, there is no way to allocate program service expenses to them individually. Subsequently, program service expenses for lunch funding assistance are estimated and were calculated by subtracting expenses related to public education from the total expenses and then multiplying the difference by the ratio of money used to ensure hot meals to total grants.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

      <ProgramSrvcAccomplishmentGrp>
        <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Our purpose is public education. Public misconception about the free and reduced lunch program and how families qualify is rampant. There are many families in Pflugerville who either do not know how to apply for assistance or who do not think they will qualify. Though we do not turn any family in need away, Pfood Pfairness strongly encourages every family who seeks our assistance to, first, fill out the application for free and reduced lunch. In 2024, because of Pfood Pfairness' participation in many public events, 82 families who had not previously applied turned in their applications. Over 50 of them were approved. Since we are a relatively new nonprofit, those families who do not qualify, or those who qualify for reduced but still need help, do not know about the assistance we can provide. Pfood Pfairness has spoken at city council meetings, various school-sponsored events, and community groups in Pflugerville, informing students, parents, and community leaders how we provide help and how families can receive it. On the other end of the spectrum, common public belief is that if families need help paying for school lunches, all they need to do is apply for help, and it will be received. This misbelief adds to the stigma for families in need and often leads to harsh judgment from the public that they are just being lazy. It is our goal to not only reach those in need of help, but to educate all on the realities of food insecurity in our community. We have recruited student ambassadors at several campuses who spread the word among the students, and we've received reports that this has led to less peer ridicule and more empathy. We have printed and distributed informative flyers to individual schools, other nonprofits serving the same population, and to parents, teachers, and community leaders at various events. Pfood Pfairness also creates social media content and advertises at strategic time, like the beginning of the school year and before free and reduced lunch applications are due. Although no cost is associated with it, our directors have also reached out to state representatives, advocating for reform of the free and reduced lunch program.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

        <ExplanationTxt>$76,971 is the total funding deposited into individual lunch accounts for students in Pflugerville ISD. $57,070.31 of the total went toward paying off the students' debts so they no longer had their chosen lunches taken away and replaced with a cold cheese sandwich. The remaining $19,900.69 added additional funds to lunch accounts for children in need so they could purchase hot, nourishing meals.</ExplanationTxt>

        <ExplanationTxt>Pfood Pfairness takes the trust of our donors seriously, and we pride ourselves on making sure every cent donated goes straight to the cause it was meant to help--funding student lunch accounts for children in need. In keeping with that goal, it is our promise to our donors that the founders of Pfood Pfairness cover all program service expenses with the exception of transaction fees charged by the donation platform. Of the $2,259 in expenses listed in Part III, Line 32, $724 was transaction fees, leaving $1,534 that encompassed all other administrative fees, including phone service, website and email hosting, printing, advertising, and other costs. In addition to not taking a salary, the founders and directors of Pfood Pfairness take responsibility for these expenses, donating from their personal accounts to ensure that all donations made by supporters of the cause are used as they were intended--to fight food insecurity and inequity for the children in Pflugerville ISD.</ExplanationTxt>

        <ExplanationTxt>Due to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacty Act, Pfood Pfairness does not have access to individual student information, with the exception of those students whose parents/guardians apply for assistance through us directly. As a relatively new nonprofit, we rely on the Pflugerville ISD to provide district-wide lunch debt information so we may help all students who are in need. The district provides Pfood Pfairness with a list of accounts and their individual debt amounts, but by law, all identifying student information must be redacted. Pfood Pfairness then applies specific amounts to each individual lunch account and writes a check to the district for the total amount. Once the list is received by the district, the identifying information is recovered, and the funds are applied to individual lunch accounts. This method ensures that the greatest number of students can be helped while still protecting their anonymity.</ExplanationTxt>
