After submission of the grant applications, our grant committee reviews the grant requests. Questions are sent back to the applicants for clarification/responses. Once all questions/issues are resolved, the committee submits a recommendation to our Board of Directors on an amount to award to each applicant school or organization. The applicants then receive a grant letter which specifies the amount and reiterates the specific guidelines for use of awarded grant funds. Porto leadership visits the schools and talks with parents throughout the school year to assess the Dioceses Programs. Form 990, Header, Line B Several errors were found by 3rd party review which was unfortunately after initial submission. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The treasurer prepares the 990 online. He shares it for review with 2 members of the Finance Committee who have audit and IRS experience. Upon edits from their review, it is shared with the Finance Committee for review and comment. Once comments are adjudicated, it is forwarded to the Executive Committee for review and comment. Upon adjudication of the executive committee comments, it is forwarded for review and comments to the entire Board of Directors. Upon adjudication of their comments, the 990 is filed with the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c - Directors annually disclose interests that could give rise to conflict and abstain from voting on matters when they are not independent. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The organization has the executive committee review and the full board approve the Chief Operating Officer's compensation. The Finance Committee provides input if requested on available funding for any additional compensation. They compare it to other local non-profit salaries. Subsequent raises and bonuses are based on the charities performance vs objectives, and cost of living adjustments. Form 990, Part XI, Line 9 We had several donations (accounts receivables) that we wanted to recognize in 2024 that weren't received till January 2025. Likewise we had several expenses (accounts payable) that we incurred in December 2024 but didn't get paid till January 2025. We requested and received an extension in May in order to complete our audit in July 2025 so that we could use those audit numbers to complete this Form 990.
