Cooperation with other historical societies shall also be pursued for the larger expansion of preserving joint historical priorities. 0 0 136091 The Dunn County Historical Society maintains a Museum for historical and educational purposes which is available to the public for viewing of historical artifacts and photographs and to research and view family and community history and genealogy. Facilities include a main Museum building, a building to display machinery and vehicles, a former bank building and a former country school house. Educational opportunities for tours, including students from local schools, are available year round. The DCHS also provides for the ability to collect Oral Histories and to make them available to the public in audio and book formats. The DCHS has published two collections of historical information of families who homesteaded and lived in Dunn County and a new edition to collect more information and update family information from the previous volumns is currently being worked on. Genealogy classes which include helpful information for doing reseach and creating and preserving family ancestries and histories is provided to the public monthly. These percentages were less than 33 1/3%, and as such the Dunn County Historical Society is using the following facts and circumstances to pass the public support test, recognizing them as a publicly supported organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 509(a)(1).Ten-Percent of Support:The total amount of public support for the organization for the year ended September 30, 2024 was 8.0275%. The total amount of public support for the organization during the prior period ending September 30, 2023 was 10.7176%. Therefore, the total public support is greater than the required 10%.Attraction of Public Support:The organization operates for the benefit of the general public by offering a space for members of the general public to explore their museum which also stores artifacts that are significant to Dunn County. The Organization is currently open 10am - 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Monday and 1pm - 5pm on Sunday during the summer and from 1pm -5pm on Sundays in the winter and any other time by appointment. Members of the general public are invited to come visit free of charge. In addition to our operations being open to our residents and visitors to the region without charge, we work closely with the county to be able to provide this experience. The Organization receives a mill levy from the county and presents a budget for review to receive the mill levy. Sources of Support:Dunn County Historical Society does not receive support from a single family; rather it receives support from Dunn County, individuals living in Dunn County, and other supporters of their Museum. In addition to contributions from those sources, the organization received a small portion of its support from individuals visiting the site.Representative Governing Body:Dunn County Historical Society is served by a seven-member governing body made up of community members that work to represent the interest of the organization; it does not represent the interests of private individuals. These representatives ensure that the organization meets the needs of the perseveration & promotion of the history of the County. In addition to the governing board the Organization has sustained around 200 members annually that work towards the goals of the Organization. Membership is open to the general public. Annual members are $10 per individial, $15 for a couple, and a lifetime membership is $100 for an indvidual and $150 for a couple.Based on the above facts and circumstances, Dunn County Historical Society should continue to be considered as publicly supported under Internal Revenue Code Section 509(a)(1).
