Since launching these services in 2005, FRI has prepared 17,900 free income tax returns, contributing to the retention of over $30 million in the Far East Dallas community through tax refunds. The organization primarily serves Hispanic families, with more than 60% of its clients being non-English speakers, reflecting its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. In 2024 alone, FRI prepared 980 free tax returns, generating $1.3 million in refunds for local taxpayers. By offering these services at no cost, FRI helped clients save an average of $170 per return in preparation fees. The Organization is not aware of any activities that would jeopardize its tax-exempt status and is not aware of any activities that are subject to tax on unrelated business income. As of December 31, 2024, the Organization believes that it has appropriate support for any tax positions taken, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The organization is subject to filing a 990 Information return annually. In addition, a 990T tax return must be filed with the Internal Revenue Service for unrelated business income. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Each board member and key employee is given a copy of the conflict of interest policy. On an annual basis major business relationships are reviewed for any possible conflicts of interest transactions. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The governing body reviews and approves compensation package for the Executive Director. Any board member with a conflict of interest with respect to the compensation in question is not allowed to participate in the deliberations. All documents used to justify the compensation package given, notes of discussions conducted, and final decisions made are maintained within the minutes of meetings held.
