<ActivityOrMissionDesc>Animal-Kind International supports animal welfare organizations in poor countries, primarily in Africa, secondarily in Latin America/Caribbean. We raise money for them and raise visibility of their work. We track their use of AKI funds and provide this information to our supporters. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements ensuring that they have enough funding to carry on their programs. To broaden our support, we sponsor an annual Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, which funds grant projects based on the submission of a successful proposal. We also provide technical and administrative assistance to our partners and grantees, and to other target organizations to help strengthen African animal welfare organizations.</ActivityOrMissionDesc>

<MissionDesc>Animal-Kind International supports animal welfare organizations in poor countries, mainly in Africa, secondarily in Latin America/Caribbean. We raise money for them so that they can spay/neuter, shelter, feed, and provide vet care for unwanted animals and in cruelty cases; conduct in-school and community humane education; provide donkey and horse welfare programs; and so they can better implement their shelter, rescue, and education programs without the constant worry over finances. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements so they always have a reliable source of funds. We reach and strengthen other animal welfare organizations through our annual Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, providing funds for 1-time projects based on a successful proposal. Through our Friendly Audit Program, we provide technical and admin support to target organizations to help strengthen animal welfare organizations mainly in Africa.</MissionDesc>

This is the third year they received a grant from us based on a successful proposal. The initial grant (2024) was for $3000, which SPCA-G used to travel door to door in a poor township outside of Grahamstown to advise people about caring for their dogs and cats, provide vaccinations and parasite treatments, provide vet care, and to sign them up for spay-neuter. With the initial grant funds they spayed 47 dogs and 3 cats and treated dogs for pyometra, amputated a tail, removed tumors from 3 dogs, and treated many wounds and minor injuries. Based on their results, our supporters offered an additional grant of $10,000 to continue the program and to provide emergency care for dogs and cats, which during phase 1 of the grant, we noticed was a largely unfilled need.</PurposeOfGrantTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>Our Partner Organizations are required to complete an expenditure tracker which details how they spent AKI funds. This form is required to be submitted after the Partner expends a disbursement, which is at least twice a year. On a regular basis (which can be as often as a few times a week to once a month), our Partners are required to send pictures and information about their use of AKI funds. Our grantees (Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program) are selected using a rigorous process where we organize an external review committee to review proposals, these and the proposals are reviewed by the board, and we use technical area experts to supplement this, when needed. The winning grant recipients are required to submit a monthly grant report (using the template we provide, which includes text and financial info) until their grant project is completed (this could be 1 monthly report up to 6 monthly reports). We also visit our Partners and Grantees when possible and in 2024, we visited Sauvons nos Animaux, Uganda SPCA, and Bam Animal Clinics-Uganda. We also gather information from our supporters when they visit one of our Partners or Grantees.</ExplanationTxt>
