MYCA develops, strengthens, and supports all teams selected to represent MD and the Washington DC area in regional and national matches, tournaments, and events. National Cricket Pathway. In 2024 the Maryland Youth Cricket Association (MYCA) worked with the Washington Youth Cricket League (WYCL) to conduct the DC Hub Premier League, which is the first step in the National Cricket Pathway. At U11, U13, and U15 age groups, 6 teams were formed at each age group consisting of the top performers. The total number of players was 220. Each team played 5 matches. At the U11 age group, a champion was crowned. At the U13 and U15 age groups, the top 26 players were selected to move to the South Atlantic Zonal competitions. Each team played 3 matches to assess player performances. The selectors then formed one U13 team and one U15 team to represent the region in a tournament against teams from other regions. The U15 team came first in the regional tournament and moved on to the National Championship. At the U19 level, MYCA and WYCL conducted the tryouts for the players and selected the best players to represent the area in a regional tournament. Players were then selected to participate in the USA Cricket U19 National Championship. MYCA also hosted the USA Cricket Women's Northeast Intra-regional with teams from the Washington DC area, New Jersey, New York and Boston. The top performers were then selected by USA Cricket to participate in the National U15 and U19 tournaments. 0 37460 MYCA Spring League and Awards Banquet. In 2024, the Maryland Youth Cricket Association (MYCA) successfully administered a statewide cricket league for youth participants in the Under 11 and Under 13 age groups, featuring both vinyl ball and leather ball teams. The league commenced in April and concluded in June, culminating in the prestigious Maryland Youth Cricket Championship Series. This initiative saw the participation of 53 teams, engaging over 575 young athletes in the sport of cricket. In the fall of 2024, MYCA hosted its annual awards ceremony, where the youth players were acknowledged and celebrated for their achievements throughout the season. The event provided encouragement to all participants, with top performers receiving trophies, medals, and plaques in recognition of their outstanding contributions. 0 29453 Trinidad and Barbados Competitions. When the Maryland Youth Cricket Association (MYCA) players are selected for the national championship tournaments, those matches are played on natural turf pitches. We use artificial turf and matting pitches at the cricket fields in Maryland. Currently there are no natural turf pitches in Maryland. As result, our players are at a disadvantage when they try out for the national teams. To help with this problem, MYCA top performers are selected for cricket tours in Trinidad and Barbados to provide experience playing against tough competition on natural turf pitches.
