Village Initiative Summer Camp offers an eight 8 week summer program from June 2 through August 4 2024 that integrates educational and fun activities among the students to promote learning for grades 2 - 9th. Computer labs and study enrichment services are provided to students and their parents. The Virtual Village Tutoring and Homework and SOAR Program was a success. Greater Waverly Foundation Summer Camp was able to assist forty 40 students in elementary 2nd & 5th Graders middle and high school from the Richland One Richland Two and a few from the Richland 5 School District. The foundation focused on youth in grades 4th through 12th. The tutoring homework and SOAR Program were able to help students build the education and life skills that will help them transition from elementary to middle and from middle school to high school. Students can connect to their communities and schools to develop more favorable outcomes and become better students and role models. The outcomes of the project and the evaluation practices used in measuring the program - During the summer camp tutoring and SOAR sessions the students in the program participate in the study skills scorecard. Students were allowed to rate their current level of study in the areas of common problems related to homework studying and organizing. Each student could link to a scale to evaluate themselves. The process enabled students to review the homework problems and describe the solutions they had just learned to address them. The Greater Waverly Foundation offered parents or guardians a copy of the students report card during each grading period. Consultation with parents guardians with a cumulative progress-monitoring assessment that gave information on the impact of study skills and homework tutoring and the importance of how they can continue to have a positive effect on the students lives. Celebrated with an end-of-the-year celebration to recognize their accomplishments over the sessions. Students were able to have better grades improve their school attendance more positive participating and contribution to class discussion. Exhibit leadership and important skills to plan and make better decisions and succeed in school. Overall they exhibit responsibility greater confidence in themselves and a higher commitment to learning. They learned how to show and interact with their peers and other students with more care and empathy. Students were able to increase their GPAs help reduce missing assignments and critical learning needed to help with organizing and communication skills needed to be successful in school. The Greater Waverly Foundation GWF partnered and worked collaboratively with area organizations that have similar missions as ours to address education and social issues that impact our communities and the schools they attend. We partnered with First Nazareth Baptist Church Young Ladies Mentoring Ministry and First Nazareth Youth Ministry. GWF continues to partner with Benedict College in a Service-Learning Partnership program that engages Benedict Students to assist students in the SOAR Study Skills Programs and the Village Initiative. 2. The Juneteenth Celebration The purpose of The Juneteenth Celebration located on Blueberry Hill within the Waverly Community will be to inform educate attendees on the historical importance of Juneteenth for all races ages and communities. There were books for adults and training for children regarding the history of Juneteenth. Food was provided seniors and youth. The historic Columbia 63 as well as Beaufort County Archives presented educational material. The project increased tourism and visitation to unincorporated Richland County. Displays of the history of Juneteenth and travelers from all across the state of South Carolina educational information delivered directly and the promise of return attendance allow the increase of tourism in Richland County. 3.
