The organization maintains a statewide program of advocacy, education and prevention. 0 0 769152 0 0 The Brain Injury Alliance (BIAIA) works to increase availability and accessibility of services and supports for people with brain injury and their families. The organization has maintained a statewide program of advocacy, education and prevention and continued to do so post pandemic and after successfully moving most of its program staff to remote positions. BIAIA had had more than 14643 contacts with Iowans affected by brain injury as well as professionals requesting information and providing resources and support. Neuro Resource Facilitation staff members supported 1410 new callers. The organization distributed more than monthly newsletters via email, 1804 resources statewide by mail to brain injury survivors, families, natural/ chosen caregiver and professionals and maintained a professional network of 425 providers and organizations to receive information for Iowans experienced brain injury. Network providers had access to engagement meetings or in-services. The 425 organizations engaged reached all 99 of Iowa's counties in their service areas. 101989 0 0 In Fiscal Year 2023 the organization provided more than 13 community-based trainings that included family caregiver workshops, survivor/family caregiver webinars and professional webinars to more than 205 unique attendees during live events with thousands of views on recorded trainings on YouTube. 34 professionals completed brain injury fundamentals training, and 10 individuals completed the certified brain injury specialist prep course. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c Each staff member must sign the handbook where the policy is explained. Supervisors monitor and enforce policies. The BIAIA Board of Directors assign conflict of interest forms annually. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 The Board reviews the compensation of the Executive Director and documents its decision-making process as a general benchmark. The Board looks at 10% of the annual budget for secured contracts. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The Organization's governing documents are maintained at the headquarters office. Members of the public can ask to see any of the governing documents as well as copies of the Form 990. Documents can also be made available electronically. Unfortunately, multiple transitions occurred in the current year resulting in this oversight. The Director of Finance resigned, which resulted in outsourcing this function immediately, however, the outsourced firm also had a change in positions early in the process. In addition, the Executive Director had serious health-related concerns including hospitalizations and medical leaves that were unplanned. These were so severe, he ended up stepping down from his role in December 2023. Lastly, the third party who prepared the Form 990 in the past had a fire, and our organization's information was lost, resulting in the missed reporting. All of these occurrences are unusual and not expected to happen again. We have implemented new processes as well as third party contractors to help us ensure this does not recur.
