We work closely with park rangers and local citizens to conserve and protect the integrity of our environment and community. Bear Aware Gardiner: In an effort to minimize conflicts between wildlife and residents, we distributed bear-proof trash cans to residences and business in the greater Gardiner area. We worked with restaurants to keep grease traps emptied and to reuse the grease to power the local bio-diesel bus. We purchased and installed portable electric fencing around sensitive areas like fruit trees, chicken coops, and an apiary. We coordinated community volunteers to pick over 200 gallons of fruit from local fruit trees. We distributed bear spray throughout the town of Gardiner for free use by the public. We worked with local agencies and businesses to inform and engage residents and tourists through the community newsletter, social media, and tabling at local events. 0 45345 Crevice Mine: We worked with local partners to prevent gold mining on the border of our community and Yellowstone National Park. We contributed time and resources toward the purchase of 1,600 acres from Crevice Mining Group LLC and transferred ownership to the Custer Gallatin National Forest. Those acres will now be permanently protected under the Yellowstone Gateway Protection Act of 2019. 0 10000 Bear Creek Council designed and initiated various educational and outreach activities related to wildlife management and environmental policy during the Montana Legislative session. With the assistance of a professional lobbyist, members and volunteers reached out to key decision makers, disseminated information to the public, and advocated for sound, science-based policy that supports our local community and its natural resources. 0 6000 We supported and participated in the broader regional and state-wide work of the Northern Plains Resource Council to protect our land, air, water, and unique quality of life.
