Patee House and the Jesse James Home in 2022. Visitors came from 50 out of 50 states and 22 foreign countries. Patee House is a National Historic Landmark for its role as the Pony Express headquarters and its service as the Provost Marshal's office during the Civil War. Further more Patee House contains an 1860's steam locomotive, stagecoach, a working vintage carousel, and much more all inside the block-square, four-story brick building. The house where the infamous outlaw Jesse James was killed now stands on the grounds of Patee House. Inside there are exhibits explaining the life and death of Jesse, including artifacts from the grave, removed during the exhumation in 1995. The building is also on the National Register of Historic Places. CODE 900099 0 0 No new exhibits were added in 2023. 0 0 As headquarters of the Pony Express, Patee House serves as either the start or finish of the annual re-ride put on each year by the National Pony Express Association (NPEA) in June. The Pony Express Historical Association works with members of the NPEA in eight states to plan and stage the relay ride, which uses approximately 550 people to carry commemorative letters 2,000 miles by horseback. Every year, Patee House Museum and the Jesse James Home are the subject of historical documentaries. Crews from around the world come to the museums to research and film at the historic locations and interview museum staff. The museum director and building supervisor spend nearly all their time doing just that. No distinction is made on financial records as to which expenses are related to easements, because the expenses are independent from the easement; this is, the Association had and will continue to maintain and preserve the building with or without an easement in place. Schedule D, Part III, Line 1 We do not capitalize collections, as allowed under SFAS 116, and as such historical artifacts have not been listed on the revenue form 990 Schedule D, Part III, Line 4 The association has an extensive collection of artifacts and historical records. The association operates two museums, Patee House Museum and the Jesse James Home, and many of these artifacts are displayed there. The association also employs a librarian who goes through documents such as newspapers from the 1800's in search of anything of historical value. For example: if someone donates multiple items at one time, that is counted as one donation. If the same person returns another day with more items. that is recorded as a separate donation. There is a yearly fee of $15. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7a Each member is entitled to one vote at the annual meeting to elect Board of Directors. As well as a lack of revenue due to the museum not having a full staff to operate. Form 990, Part XII, Line 2b Association by-laws require that a yearly audit be preformed by association members, but it does not require that these auditors be certified.
