We had 175 registered participants. The goal with Sisters in the Park was to bring the Richmond and surounding communities together for an educational and fun day in order to begin a dialogue about the impact that breast cancer has in the African American Community. Prior to the walk we had a brief program featuring our keynote speaker Dr. Arnethea Sutton. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth and a member of the VCU Massey Cancer Center. She is the PI of the CARES lab which stands for Cancer Advocacy and Research for Equity in Survivorship. Currently, her lab is conducting studies to understand how psychosocial stress and coping impact hypertention in breast cancer survivors. FORM 990 PART III Walk continued She also leads Facts and Faith Fridays, a partnership between VCU Massey CAncer Center and the African American faith based community that provides accurate health information and resources to improve the health of our FORM 990 PART III WALK CONTINUED communities. To further get us warmed up for this 3.1 mile walk, the Virginia Union University cheerleaders lead us in a couple of breast cancer cheers. Participants walked and or ran around Shields, Sean and Boat Lakes at Byrd Lake and was cheered on by the VUU cheerleaders and other volunteers all the way to the finish line. There were educational vendors food trucks and entertainment provided by Good Times Entertainment featuring DJ Zo for all to enjoy until 2 pm It was a beatiful day full of lots of energy and leaving the community and members wanting to repeat for next year.
