Allen was advisor to King Kamehameha. Students were given questions to answer about Allen. They learned about Allen's being a slave in Schenectady, NY, and how he escape finding his way to Boston where met his father. Allen became a ship hand on a commercial ship that took him around the world. The King's Kuhuna nui gifted Allen six acres of land near Waikiki. He married a Hawaiian woman and had three children. who lived to adult age.
