Due to unexpected medical issues, I was not able to fulfill my obligations to the Future City competition. 2022-2023 was a very difficult time for me medically with months of infections and reconstructive surgery that later led to kidney shut-down. I have continued problems and am scheduled for yet another surgery in January 2024. When the transition to electronic filing occurred, I was not aware that I would be unable to do that myself and would need to hire a professional tax preparer with software, and I missed the deadline. I have accepted that at my age and with my medical problems, this work is more than I can handle. I have hired an accounting firm to prepare the returns going forward. Unfortunately by the time I hired them, I had already missed the 2022 deadline. I accept full responsibility for these delays and hope that you will accept our resolution and not penalize the organization, as it provides so much amazing support and mentoring for our middle school students.
