These volunteers contribute approximately 6884 hours annually to transport surplus food from local grocery stores, markets, bakeries, farms, and restaurants, ensuring that high-quality, nutritious food is diverted from landfills and delivered to community members. Volunteers play a key role in every aspect of the food recovery process, from collection to packaging and distribution, significantly enhancing our operational capacity. This use of volunteers enables HFR to operate cost-effectively while maximizing the volume of food recovered and redistributed. In the most recent fiscal year, volunteers helped HFR distribute over 364,462 pounds of rescued food to individuals who may be experiencing food insecurity. Other In 2023, HFR launched a $3 million Capital Campaign to fund the purchase and remodel of a new Forever Home to cement the organizations position in the community. HFRs programming had outgrown its previously leased facilities and needed a space to expand food access programs and increase food rescues. With the purchase of a warehouse in January 23 and its subsequent remodel (bringing significantly expanded food storage, a commercial kitchen and an office all under one roof) HFR will be able to continue expanding to meet the growing and adapting needs of the community into the future. HFR continues to actively seek funds to close out the Capital Campaign and fully pay off the mortgage used for the purchase.
