It was dormant, meaning no activity, until 2016. In 2016, MTTB filed its "IRS Application for Recognition of 501(c)(3) Exempt Status." The IRS recognized MTTB's 501(c)(3) status in 2016. MTTB's submitted the online 990-n Informational Return in 2017 for the 2016 fiscal year. The 2016 990-n information through 2022 IRS 990EZ is (or will be) available online at the IRS "Tax Exempt Organization Search" (formerly Select Check). The bookkeeper then creates reports to provide statements of total income, expenses, and financial positions at the beginning and end of the fiscal year. A specialist familiar with 501(c)(3) organizations then creates the Form 990 Informational Return information from the statements of cash flows and financial position. A draft of the 990 is provided to the officers for review and changes. When complete the 990 is submitted online to the IRS. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 17 On March 15, 2024, MTTB registered and has an online listing with the Ohio Attorney General Charitable Law Section (OAGCLS). Later in March, MTTB applied for a religious organization exemption from annual reporting and the payment of annual fees to OAGCLS. MTTB received an OAGCLS exemption letter dated May 1, 2024. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 MTTB makes its governing documents available to the public upon request. Also, MTTB's Articles of incorporation are available to the public at the Ohio Sec. of State website (Corporations Search). MTTB's 990 Informational Returns are available to the public at the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search. Upon request, MTTB will provide a copy of any of the above or any other public document (such as the IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter and IRS Application for Recognition of 501(c)(3) Exempt Status) by mail or email. MTTB's fiscal year is the same as the calendar year. I submitted an IRS 8868 for MTTB on May 12, 2023. This extended MTTB's deadline from May 15 to Nov. 11, 2023. While substantially complete, MTTB's 2022 IRS 990 was still in edit mode on Nov. 15, 2023. I had completed 8 out of 10 of the 2022 IRS 990s I was working on by Wednesday, Nov. 15. The Envoy Institute 990, which required more time, was completed on Saturday, Nov. 18 (filed with the IRS by Form 990 Online on Monday, Nov. 20). MTTB, my final 990, was completed on Wednesday, Nov. 22. On Nov. 22, 2023, I completed a final draft and emailed this to Father Louis Merosne (MTTB founder and president) for a final review. Thanksgiving Day was the next day, Nov. 23, 2023. I failed to follow-up with Father Louis on MTTB's 2022 IRS 990 until Oct. 21, 2024. Father Louis travels extensively in Haiti and the US. He replied today and thus we are filing the 2022 IRS 990 with the IRS today.
