ALCA schedules series of workshops and online exams covering 10 topics designed for interaction and hands-on learning. The certification process increases knowledge and skills, earns greater respect, and enhances the public image of the industry. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Sustainable Landscape Management Certification - ALCA has created a rigorous curriculum and certification program based on Sustainable Landscape Management (SLM) standards. One of the values of the SLM certification is public recognition of quality standards within the Green Industry. It announces that certified individual/landscape companies have the knowledge and skills to employ practices that strive to preserve limited and valuable natural resources such as water, reduce waste generation, and strive for longevity and maturity of plant materials. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 The Association has five (5) mutually exclusive classes of membership, as determined by the Board of Directors. These are: Contractor, Associate, Architects & Designers, Affiliate & Educator and Honorary). Contractor Member is any person, firm, partnership or corporation actively engaged in the construction or maintenance of interior or exterior landscapes, whose dues are not delinquent and who is normally engaged in an activity that is allied to the landscaping or as determined by the Board of Directors. Associate Member is any person, firm, partnership or corporation whose dues are not delinquent and who is engaged in a business or industry allied with the landscape industry. Architects & Designers who are interested in the landscape industry and whose dues are not delinquent. Honorary Membership may be granted by the Association to any person who has rendered outstanding service to the landscape contracting industry or in fields of activity related thereto, approved by the Board of Directors. Affiliates & Educators Municipalities, Golf Courses, Educators (ACLP, Public Educators, Employees) working with the green industry, but not providing landscape services or products and whose dues are not delinquent. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Form 990 is reviewed by the Finance Committee consisting of the Treasurer, CEO, and a CPA member. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c The Association has a written conflict of interest policy and board members are required to disclose all businesses of which the member, or a member of his family, is an officer, member, owner, or employe and from which the member, or a member of his family, receives compensation of any sort, with which the Association competes or with which the Association has, or might reasonably in the future enter into, a relationship or a transaction. The Chief Executive Office is responsible to enforce this policy and to disclose any conflicts of interest to the Chairman of the Board. If such a transaction or potential transaction is disclosed, the board member is to remove themselves from the discussion and vote of said transaction.
