The scholarships are paid directly to the applicants' institutions of higher learning. Chickasaw citizens and Chickasaw Nation employees who suffer from a natural disaster can apply for aid through the foundation. The Chief Executive Officer determines the amount and type of aid the individual needs. The Foundation, with assistance of the Chickasaw Nation, also searches out citizens and employees who might need assistance after a natural disaster. Form 990, Header, Line B After our original filing, we discovered a $129,000 donation had been misclassified as an unrestricted donation coming from an individual. The donation was actually from the Chickasaw Nation (a tribal government) and was restricted for a higher education scholarship. Also, we have now completed our audit for 2023. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 3 The Chickasaw Foundation entered into an agreement with the Chickasaw Nation to manage the activities and office of the Chickasaw Foundation. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 Any member of the Chickasaw Foundation can nominate a person for the Chickasaw Foundation board of trustees. The board then votes on the nominees to determine who fills the open position. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b The Form 990 is sent to all board members for them to review, ask questions and request changes before the final form is filed. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c If there is a possible conflict of interest with a proposed transaction or activity of the foundation, it will be brought to the board's attention. The board will then make a determination if there is an actual conflict of interest and what action is deemed necessary. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 The public can a request the documents by contacting the Chickasaw Foundation office or by visiting our website. The original Form 990 was filed and accepted by the IRS on 5/13/24 within the filing deadline. This is an amended return.
