Part III - Line 4a CAORC Fellowships (for American Scholars): this fellowship program is open to U.S. doctoral candidates and scholars who have already earned their Ph.D. In the social sciences and humanities. Scholars can pursue research in other countries in mainland southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Burma, Southern China) provided that part of their research is undertaken in Cambodia. Ph.D. Dissertation Research Fellowships: these fellowships are open to doctoral candidates who wish to pursue their dissertation research in Cambodia and Southeast Asia. Awards are available for periods of up to eleven months. Senior Research Fellowships: Senior fellowships are open to post doctorate scholars in all disciplines in the social sciences and the humanities to pursue further research in Cambodia and Southeast Asia. Short-term awards are available for up to four months. Long-term awards are available for six to nine months. Fellowships for four months or less may have some travel restrictions. Criteria for Evaluation: The Fellowship Selection Committee composed of scholars from relevant fields connected to Cambodian studies will assess each application on the basis of the project description, the candidates academic and/ or professional record and the quality of references. The applicant must explain the nature and significance of the project in terms understandable to a non-specialist audience. Fellowships granted by the Center for Khmer Studies receive funding from The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of The United States State Department and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC). Candidates must be U.S. Citizens. Part III - Line 4bSummer Junior Resident Fellowship Program: This program hosts students from the U.S., France and Cambodia for a series of lectures in contemporary Cambodian studies, covering topics in political culture, the arts, the economy and its relation to social problems, the ecological context of the country and its vulnerability to climate change, among other topics. Program fellows also conduct research on a topic of their choosing relating to Cambodian studies and undertake introductory language training which is included in the program. Part III - Line 4c The CKS Library: following decades of civil war and the targeted destruction of its educational resources, Cambodia is rebuilding its libraries and archives t. In this context, where access to books is greatly limited, and public libraries are only available to the Cambodian public in the capital Phnom Penh, CKS has been building a library collection specializing in Cambodian and Southeast Asian history and culture for students, scholars and the public. Since the library opened in 2001, it has grown its collection from a few hundred to over 20,000 titles. With a very modest budget allocation, the CKS library owes its development to the talent and resourcefulness of its Cambodian staff, the generosity of individual donors, and additional support from CAORC and the Asia Foundation. Situated in Wat Damnak, a living Buddhist monastery in the heart of Siem Reap, the library is the largest public academic library in Cambodia outside of Phnom Penh, and the second most important for the social sciences and humanities in the country. Our collection, managed by CKS-trained Cambodian librarians, serves as an invaluable resource for local and international students and scholars and the general public. The library is open to everyone, free of charge, from Monday through Saturday. The majority of Cambodian visitors are high school teachers and students, researchers, Buddhist monks and professional tour guides. Young Cambodians drop by daily and read alongside international scholars and researchers. Our journals include collections from the Southeast Asian ministers of education organizations Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SPAFA) and the Siam Society. The collection also contains unique out-of-print publications from local and overseas libraries, and a wide selection of M.A. And Ph.D. Dissertations from overseas universities and research papers by Cambodian university students and CKS fellows. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, directories, maps, guidebooks and daily national newspapers in English, French and Khmer are also available for reference. We also offer some 20,000 digital resources (including articles, book chapters, and photography and audiovisual collections), available through our recently developed online catalog. Our physical facilities include computers and tablet devices with internet access, as well as a performing arts media station featuring traditional Cambodian music. General explanation attachment Change of Accounting Period:Most program activities run during the June-August summer months, thus The Center for Khmer Studies Inc is converting from a fiscal year ending June 30 to fiscal year that follows the calendar year. Thus, this return represents a 6 month period while we change our accounting period.
