In one of our nation's most segregated cities, we aim to bring Austinites together across the physical divide of I-35 with high quality, accessible, inclusive art. 0 0 14830 0 2827 "Of Thee I Swing" was a live, mixed media show which explored the stories of five people who served in or survived through World War II. This production combined filmed interviews and live dance - including swing, contemporary, tap, hip-hop fusion, and theatre dance - mixed with song, animation, and 1940's garb. This evening-length piece honored seniors and veterans, and it shared their wisdom for a divided time. These three performances took place at First Street Studios in East Austin, and 124 people attended. Three choreographers were hired, and eight multiform dancers were cast. Several volunteers from our Board and the community provided critical services including set construction, front-of-house operation, professional photography and videography, poster design, and more. A national beverage company provided a donation bar and also donated all tips to Early Era Collective. Thanks to increased funding from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Department, we significantly increased our wages for artists, who were paid for all rehearsal and performance hours at market rates. 11355 0 3742 "Whirligig" showcased the creativity, fun, and professionalism of Austin's dance community through six brand new works by Lisa del Rosario, Daniel Broxton, Mia Moi, Jairus Carr, and Stephanie Patrick. The performance took place across three evenings of shows at Factory on 5th, in east Austin. Each show sold out (roughly 160 people in attendance.) For "Whirligig," we hosted public auditions and hired our largest cast of choreographers and dancers to date (16 dancers.) Within the constraints of our budget, we met our goal of paying artists an equitable wage for their time in rehearsals and performances. Several volunteers from our Board and the community served volunteer positions including front-of-house operation, professional photography and videography, poster design, operational supports, and much more. A national beverage company provided a donation bar and also donated all tips to the company. 7157 0 0 "Immigration Project" (working title) is an exhibit-style production that highlights and celebrates the stories and cultures of U.S. immigrants through filmed interviews and live dance. Coproduced with Rahul Chakraborty, an accomplished filmmaker from Oklahoma City, this production will premiere in September 2024 at the George Washington Carver Museum in East Austin. Audiences will experience this production via a guided "migration;" they will be encouraged to discuss their cultural backgrounds and ancestry while "traveling" between the stops. The project will highlight multiple perspectives of interviewees and artists who have immigrated from Lebanon, Belgium, Bangladesh, Palestine, the Philippines, and other parts of the world. The interviewees are educators, activists, spiritual leaders, and artists working for change in their communities. Live music and dance will be created by local Austin artists with immigration experience to add to the overall theme of the production.
