This designation allowed us to open our doors in Cottage Grove Oregon in September 2023 - our first brick and mortar. After running satellite and pop-up events for 5 years becoming an official school and opening our doors is one of the major highlights and accomplishments in our organization's history to this point. Each component of the school program works toward increasing the student's success for full participation in their school placement and community. Youth are given the opportunity to apply acquired skills in an inclusive setting through partnerships with local school districts and surrounding schools. Our mission is that each student has a holistic educational plan centered around youth success and functional skill development teaching methods instructional techniques that integrate multidisciplinary team goals + treatment plans into functional skills and recreation activities educator attention during learning and recreation activities that allow for individual youth's processing and response time and movement breaks outside of equipment to allow for independent mobility such as rolling crawling wiggling self ambulation and access to floortime. 23006 0 15790 During 2023 Circle of Friends School provided three summer camp sessions for youth ages 7-13 with severe disabilities. The camp's purpose served up to 10 youth per session specifically youth who have a physical disability and severe communication impairment which traditionally impact their ability to attend camps offered through other public organizations. During camp youth participated in games that focused on strengthening their gross and fine motor skills use of sensory based activities that encouraged exploration curiosity problem solving and creativity all while modeling their individualized Augmentative and Alternative Communication AAC systems. Lastly all camp activities integrated the use of adaptive equipment or supports which included but were not limited to switch-accessed toys light up musical instruments and games as well as sensory based activities that support language development and motor skills. 0 0 0 Thanks to our work with the Oregon Department of Education and our annual summer camp experience we've been able to provide credibility to neighboring school districts showing them what Circle of Friends can provide for their most marginalized students. Because of our integrity and commitment to this work we started our first school year with three district contracts - a huge accomplishment. As the spotlight on Circle of Friends intensifies we are confident that our district relationships will quickly extend beyond the current ones.
