Our organization is still suffering from the continued, accumulated, combined impacts of multiple disasters that have impacted our community and created disturbances in our region. St. Croix is still recovering from Hurricane Maria (with unrepaired physical infrastructure to date including our hospital, roads, electric utility/power plant, schools, communications infrastructure i.e. cell towers, and other public infrastructure). Disaster recovery was slowed to a near halt by the Covid-19 pandemic and is still underway with power outages, communication brown outs, and other systems being routinely disrupted. This has created widespread instability in the USVI. Our organization's capacity to manage this and former filings was impaired directly by these hardships. However, we have put systems in place moving forward including engaging a professional CPA firm to assist and prepare future 990 returns timely. We request forgiveness of any penalties related to late filing for reasonable cause of natural disaster and economic disruption in the region.
