<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>The HBCU Promise is an active mentoring organization. Our approach is simple, remove barriers and obstacles that could hinder our mentees' successful completion of college. This active, hands-on approach is key to ensuring that our students are motivated to finish high school and ensure that they have the resources needed to complete college. Community Involvement: * The HBCU Promise Inc. was invited to participate in HBCU Week with Legacy High School; partnered with Nevada State High School and presented the program to Nevada State High School Students. * Worked with the Las Vegas UNCF and participated in HBCU Night with the WNBA. * Partnered with Strengthening Our Sons, an Orlando, FL, nonprofit. * Met with the Jamaican Cultural Connection (JCC) to help bridge the African Diaspora in Central Florida. Held parent and student meetings with over a dozen families. * the CEO visited over a half dozen high schools in Washington DC, FL, and Nevada * Met with a Zappos representative and attended the Annual NAACP Gala as a guest of Zappos. * Two of our HBCU Promise Scholars spoke about the program on Power 88.1 in Las Vegas, NV. The HBCU Promise Inc. held an informational session on The Power of HBCUs in Las Vegas, NV, on April 2nd with over 30 parents and students. * Juneteenth Las Vegas, NV, a full-page ad was placed in the program for the Largest and Oldest Juneteenth celebration in Nevada, where there were over 5,000 attendees, highlighting the support of Bristol West for The HBCU Promise. In addition, our student Bristol West Representative was present and spoke to attendees about the support of Bristol West and the work of The HBCU Promise. * The Power of Insurance: Presented by Bristol West, a Farmers Insurance Company, a virtual event, was held on August 20th. <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Getting "To" College Program: This program was designed to ensure that African American males completed high school and were supported in enrollment to ensure starting college was a seamless process. The "Promise" met with students and parents as they prepared for college discussing financial literacy, mentoring, coping skills for parents, and more. The "Promise" supported new program members with need-based support as they prepared for college. The Dynamic Dorm Initiative provided over $6,000 in support by providing brand new laptops, dorm room needs, food, and travel to and at four different HBCUs in Alabama, Louisiana, and the District of Columbia. * Bristol West and Farmers goodie bags were also presented to the students and families. The inaugural College Preparation Camping trip took students to Mount Charleston, NV where they completed a pre-college program designed to increase their resiliency and strengthen their capacity to complete college.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Getting thru Program: HBCU Promise scholars academic progress, mental health, and social media interactions are reviewed during on-campus visits to ensure continued student success. One important initiative is the Everyone Eats Initiative. While some would argue that food is a universal love language, the Promise believes that food is a universal LIFE language. Food, especially in the Black community, brings forth life, love, and peace. For our young men, the peace becomes powerful because they are not just fed food but also, they are fed compassion. When dining with our students these are moments where they are encouraged to express themselves, relax, and let go of stress. It allows the young men to come together and gain nourishment for both their bodies, spirit, and mind. Many of our youth know first-hand the effects of being hungry, living in food deserts, and food insecurities. As we work to remove physical barriers to our young men's academic success, we are also working to remove psychological barriers to their success as well. That is why our Mentoring Campus Visits for Mental Health: Everybody Eats Initiative is carried out by HBCU Promise representatives during visits with students on campus. This is a cornerstone of our campus visits. The African tradition of breaking bread. In addition, an open line of communication between an HBCU Promise representative and parents allowed for seamless communication to ensure that parents were being supported to ensure that they were informed about their student's progress. An HBCU Promise representative was available and met with college/university officials to ensure our students were on track for graduation. Most of the participating HBCU Promise students attended the graduation of our second West Coast graduate from Florida A&M University.</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>
