Through our Capacity Building Team, CFJ forms part of the State Transformational Assistance Center (STAC) which is meant to accelerate efforts across the state to reimagine community schools in ways that are aligned with the California Community Schools Partnership Program Framework (CCSPP). Over 1000 CA education leaders attended the single day event from all different regions and districts. Our Capacity Building Team made sure to center youth voices by creating a Youth Advocacy Board with students from across all of our regions that participated in planning. Additionally, we had some staff and youth organizers who created and facilitated workshops during the day. The highlight of the event was our Youth and Parent Panel which closed out the event with six of our youth leaders and two parents from the community. Fall Base Building DriveIn September we launched our Fall Base Building Drive across our four regions (San Jose, Oakland, Fresno, Long Beach), a special occurrence for 2023 since we have not had the opportunity to do this in-person since 2020. Lasting until October, our youth leaders and organizing teams reached over 1k youth across the state! Our students led:48 Classroom Presentations: key building tactics that leverage our Power of Relationships Strategy by partnering with adult allies (educators and administrators) at our school chapter sites.16 Tabling Events: events that leverage our Power of Moral Authority by having members share their personal stories to recruit new members Base Building and Leadership Development Our Working To Amplify Youth Voices (WAVY) Program was the first program of the 2023/2024 academic year (December 2023) with over 59 students joining in total for Fresno, Oakland, San Jose, and Long Beach. Of those that attended, 33% stated that they joined because an active CFJ intern or organizer invited them, giving a real time perspective of the impact of our youth leadership. As this is the first event/retreat for the school year, it is an indicator of what the school year will look like. Form 990, Part III, Line 4d OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: LB Professional Learning Networks (PLNs)We began our Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) with the Long Beach Unified School District in the 2021-22 school year, and are now in our third year of implementation. Through the PLNs, five high schools (Wilson, Cabrillo, Poly Tech, Lakewood, Jordan) created unique design teams, made up of administrators, teachers, students and parents, with students at the center to set out on this equity journey with us. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Through building trusting relationships with schools, administrators, educators, and students, we were able to see the following moves by 2023: Poly High School design team members conducted a Truth Campaign on campus. Students conducted peer-to-peer interviews where they asked students what they would want their teachers and staff to know about their experience at school. They then compiled the learnings and shared that back out with the Instructional Leadership Team in the form of specific recommendations. Jordan High School students led classroom observations and gave feedback and recommendations for classroom instruction and pedagogy. Lakewood hosted a school-wide cultural fair with community members and culturally responsive resources. Cabrillo started a student-led podcast to expand their reach on campus.Wilson put on three 1-hour student-led professional development opportunities for all teachers focused on Relationship Centered Schools. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: PartnershipsIn late January 2023, the California Partnership for the Future of Learning (CA-PFL) identified the preliminary structure of the Community Schools toolkit with the launch of a series of Unity Calls with the Community Schools Workgroup and Anchor team members, which provided the groundwork to begin drafting the outline of the toolkit. Provide background on how the $4.1 billion investment in community schools was won through organizing led by students, families, and community in partnership with educators. Realizing the vision for community schools will depend on continuing to live into authentic partnership grounded in shared power and decision-making at the school, district, and state levels.Share examples of how students, families, and communities organize to transform schools in their neighborhoods.Support students, families, and community members as leaders and experts in co-creating and sustaining relationship-centered community schools in partnership with educators at the school and district levels. Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6 From the organization bylaws: QUALIFICATION (a) This Corporation shall have one class of voting members, who shall be known as "Leaders, and the membership, voting and other rights, interests and privileges of each such member shall be equal. (b)Membership in this Corporation as a Leader shall be by invitation only, and potential members shall be nominated by the Board or the staff of the Corporation, or by an existing member of the Corporation, pursuant to the criteria adopted by the Board from time to time. (c)The Board may also offer non-voting "memberships" to additional classes of individuals. However, such members shall have no rights to vote or to exercise any of the rights, interests or privileges of the Leaders pursuant to these Bylaws. Such nonvoting members shall have only the rights and privileges adopted by the Board from time to time. Each reference in these Bylaws to a "member" shall refer only to Leaders, and nothing in these Bylaws shall confer any rights or privileges on any nonvoting member described in this Section 5.l(c). Section 4:2: ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of members shall be held in the first quarter of each calendar year at a time to be set in advance by the Board of Directors. At the Annual Meeting, the Members shall (a) elect Directors pursuant to Section 8.3(c) (i), (b) approve the annual plan for the Corporation, and (c) conduct such other business as is properly brought before the Members pursuant to these Bylaws. After completion of said returns, the organization is sent a draft of the tax returns to be reviewed and examined. The organization distributes copies of the returns to those individuals charged with governance. Those individuals at that time can review and if applicable discuss any line items in the return with the accountant who has prepared the return. If all items are found to be acceptable, an authorization is signed and provided to authorize the outside accounting firm to process, sign and provide copies of the returns to be filed (paper or electronically) with the designated governmental agencies. The tax returns are then signed by the organization, stamped and mailed with certified return receipt or the signed form 8879 is provided to the outside accounting firm allowing electronic filing. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12c On an annual basis, during the week of the organizations Annual Meeting, all current board members and key employees are required to review the Conflict of Interest policy. At this time, current board members and key employees are required to disclose any interests that could give rise to conflicts by completing and signing a Disclosure Form. The board Executive Committee reviews and monitors the annually signed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Forms at the subsequent Executive Committee meeting.
